What they need

Role Summary We are seeking an experienced Cloud Operations Engineer to support and optimize enterprise cloud environments, with a primary focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring platform availability, reliability, security, and operational excellence while supporting cloud automation, modernization, and transformation initiatives.

This role is AWS-focused today but offers opportunities to expand into Azure and broader multi-cloud operations as the organization's cloud strategy evolves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and support AWS cloud infrastructure and platform services, ensuring availability, performance, security, reliability, and operational stability of production environments.
  • Resolve incidents, service requests, and operational issues within agreed service targets, performing troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions to minimize business impact.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions, operational workflows, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to improve service quality, consistency, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Support cloud deployments, upgrades, patching, migrations, lifecycle management, performance tuning, platform optimization, and ongoing operational maintenance.
  • Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions to proactively identify and address operational risks.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, application, architecture, infrastructure, and senior engineering teams to support cloud operations, service improvements, and technical delivery.
  • Support cloud migration, modernization, transformation, cloud adoption, and technology refresh initiatives, including future Azure and multi-cloud capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, backup, disaster recovery, and recovery readiness requirements.
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, technical standards, procedures, runbooks, disaster recovery documentation, and knowledge articles, while supporting ITSM and problem management processes.
  • Provide technical escalation support and guidance to Level 1 support teams and other operational resources.
  • Deliver assigned projects, enhancements, and service requests within agreed timelines, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams regarding operational status, risks, incidents, recovery, and project activities.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required to support business operations and strategic objectives.

Required Skills

  • 3–5+ years of cloud operations, infrastructure support, or cloud engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS, including management of core IaaS and PaaS services such as compute/virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity services.
  • Associate- or professional-level cloud certification preferred or required (for example, AWS CloudOps or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux system administration in cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Experience with cloud monitoring, alerting, and observability tools.
  • Scripting and automation experience using tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, security, and operations, including DNS, VPN, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Experience working within Agile, DevOps, and IT Service Management (ITSM/ITIL) environments.
  • Experience working with Managed Service Providers (MSPs), vendors, service providers, and cross-functional technology teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to proactively identify issues and implement improvements.
  • Experience contributing to infrastructure and cloud modernization initiatives while collaborating across technical and business teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural, globally distributed, and matrixed organizations.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated accountability, adaptability, ownership, continuous learning, and results orientation.

Preferred Skills

  • 5+ years of experience within large enterprise environments.
  • Experience operating within Agile delivery and DevOps-oriented environments collaborating effectively as part of geographically distributed and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.
  • Experience with ADO (Azure DevOps), CI/CD, GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with PowerShell, Python, Shell scripting, REST APIs, or similar automation technologies.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containers, or AKS.
