Cloud Spanner Database Engineer

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Cloud Spanner Database Engineer to support large-scale database modernization, migration, replication, and optimization initiatives in a Google Cloud environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Spanner , relational database migration, Change Data Capture (CDC), data replication, ETL/data pipelines, high availability, disaster recovery, and database performance optimization.

This role will work closely with engineering, data, and infrastructure teams to design scalable and highly available database solutions and migrate workloads from legacy platforms such as Informix to Cloud Spanner .

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Spanner in production environments.
• Experience with Cloud Spanner schema design, optimization, and performance tuning .
• Experience migrating relational databases, preferably Informix , to Cloud Spanner or other distributed/cloud databases.
• Strong understanding of CDC and database replication , including bi-directional synchronization.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Dataflow and Apache Beam for data pipelines.
• Experience designing multi-region, highly available database architectures .
• Strong understanding of disaster recovery, failover/failback, RPO/RTO, and DR planning .
• Experience with database capacity planning, sizing, monitoring, observability, and cost optimization .
• Strong SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Experience supporting production databases and performing Day-2 operational activities .
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Informix database administration or modernization .
• Experience with Spanner Data Boost and analytical workload offloading.
• Experience with Google Cloud database and data services.
• Experience implementing large-scale database migration and modernization programs.
• Knowledge of distributed database architecture and globally scalable systems.
• Experience developing operational runbooks and production support procedures.
• Google Cloud certifications related to cloud architecture, databases, or data engineering are a plus.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a Cloud Database / Spanner Engineer who combines strong database fundamentals with hands-on Google Cloud experience. You should be comfortable working across schema migration, replication, data pipelines, performance optimization, high availability, disaster recovery, and production operations .

Candidates with experience moving legacy Informix workloads to Cloud Spanner and designing reliable CDC/replication architectures will be especially valuable.
