About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Metrologist / CMM Programmer to support Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Engineering, and Quality teams.
This role is ideal for someone who can take a new or prototype component , interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements, determine the appropriate measurement approach, and develop the CMM program and inspection methodology required to evaluate the part.
This is not primarily a CMM operator or Quality Inspector position. We need someone who understands CMM programming and can help establish measurement methods, inspection processes, and documentation that other inspectors and engineering teams can consistently follow.
Experience with any major CMM platform is acceptable. Mitutoyo MCOSMOS is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and program CMM inspection routines for new and existing components
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, datums, tolerances, and dimensional requirements
- Determine appropriate measurement and inspection methods for prototype and production components
- Set up measurement parameters and inspection strategies for new parts
- Perform precision measurements using CMMs, optical comparators, vision systems, gauges, and other metrology equipment
- Develop and validate inspection methods for new/prototype components
- Partner with Product Development, Supplier Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams
- Support prototype development, feasibility studies, qualification, validation, and receiving inspection
- Support dimensional root cause analysis by defining and executing appropriate measurement methods
- Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, inspection procedures, and measurement documentation
- Analyze measurement results and communicate findings to engineering and quality stakeholders
- Help strengthen internal metrology capabilities and reduce reliance on external metrology resources
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on CMM programming experience , not experience limited to running existing programs
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
- Experience setting up/programming CMMs for new parts and establishing measurement parameters
- Ability to determine the appropriate inspection/measurement approach for new components
- Experience with any CMM programming platform
- Experience supporting dimensional inspection, measurement systems, prototypes, validation, NPI, or Product Development
- Experience using multiple measurement instruments such as optical comparators, vision systems, gauges, calipers, micrometers, or similar tools
- Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Mitutoyo MCOSMOS experience
- Experience with PC-DMIS, Calypso, Verisurf, PolyWorks, Zeiss, Hexagon, or similar platforms
- Receiving inspection experience
- First Article Inspection (FAI) experience
- Experience creating SOPs, work instructions, and inspection procedures
- Quality systems or measurement systems experience
- Training or informal leadership experience
- ASQ, MSA, metrology, or advanced measurement training/certifications
- Vocational or technical training related to metrology, inspection, machining, or manufacturing
- Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of related experience is a plus, but not required
What We're Really Looking For
The ideal candidate does not need to know our exact CMM equipment on day one.
We're looking for someone who understands the fundamentals of metrology and CMM programming and can:
Read the drawing → understand the GD&T → determine how the part should be measured → establish the measurement strategy → create the CMM program → document the process so others can execute it.
