A Client-Side Lead Mechanical Engineer acts as the owner's representative, overseeing engineering consultants (EP) and contractors (C) to ensure design, procurement, and construction align with project goals, budget, execution schedules, quality and safety standards.

This role focuses on technical assurance, technical risk management, and ensuring mechanical systems (processing plant, infrastructure) are fit for purpose. Technical Leadership: Lead mechanical design reviews, technical evaluations for processing plants and associated infrastructure and decision making for lay outs and equipment selections. Owner’s Representative: Provide client-side oversight of EP Consultants and C Contractors, managing engineering quality and scope compliance. Project Phases: Lead mechanical scope from Basic Engineering Design (BED) through to Detailed Engineering Design (DED) and procurement and construction execution. Package Management: Manage tender packages, procurement, and delivery of major mechanical equipment from concept to commissioning. Risk & Quality Management: Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensure compliance with mining regulations, and conduct safety audits (e.g., HAZOP, design safety). Collaboration: Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (process, civil, structural, electrical) to ensure integrated solutions.

Cost Control: Ensures designs are fit for purpose and within budget and any growth trends or scope changes are reported to engineering management.

Schedule Control: Contributes to schedule sequencing for design and procurement activities, ensuring baseline logic is followed and ensures consultants and vendors conform to delivery timelines. Experience: Minimum 10 to 15 years’ experience in mining/minerals processing projects, preferably within gold processing plants.

Technical Expertise: Proficiency in mechanical equipment packages (crushers, conveyors, SAG/ball mills, leaching plants, slurry pumping etc). Leadership: Experience leading teams of engineers and designers and managing design and constructability interfaces with Vendors and Construction Contractors. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
