Role Overview

Capstone Mentor (Student Venture Support)

The Capstone team works closely with student entrepreneurs as they build, test, and execute ventures in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment. This role is designed for a seasoned professional who combines strong execution, sound business judgment, and empathy to support students through the realities of venture building.

As part of Tetr's experiential learning model, students identify real-world opportunities, develop innovative solutions, validate them with customers, and present their ventures at key milestones throughout the semester.

As a Capstone Mentor , you will play a central role in helping student teams move from broad ideas to sharper strategy, stronger execution, and real-world validation. This is a hands-on mentoring role for someone who can combine startup experience, structured guidance, and high standards to support a portfolio of student ventures through an intensive venture-building journey.

What you'll do

• Mentor an assigned portfolio of student venture teams from opportunity identification through prototype development, validation, and final presentation.
• Conduct regular one-on-one and small-group mentoring sessions to support progress, challenge thinking, and unblock execution.
• Help students translate complex startup, business, and product concepts into practical, actionable next steps.
• Guide teams in identifying meaningful market opportunities and developing innovative, customer-centric solutions.
• Encourage evidence-based validation through customer discovery, experimentation, and user insights rather than assumptions.
• Mentor teams on customer discovery, experiment design, prototyping, prioritization, venture positioning, business model development, and pitch readiness.
• Track the progress of assigned teams by monitoring milestones, blockers, validation quality, and overall venture development.
• Collaborate closely with faculty, industry mentors, and internal stakeholders to ensure students receive timely, consistent, and high-quality guidance.
• Facilitate mentoring sessions, workshops, project reviews, feedback discussions, and collaborative working sessions throughout the program.
• Prepare students for key milestones, including venture reviews, Demo Day, and the Capstone Celebration.
• Maintain academic rigour by evaluating student submissions, providing constructive feedback, and supporting the overall quality of the capstone program.

Who will thrive

• 2-8 years of experience in startups, venture building, product management, growth, strategy, consulting, innovation, entrepreneurship, or founder support.
• Strong mentoring and coaching skills with the ability to balance encouragement, accountability, and high standards.
• Ability to simplify complex business and product concepts into practical, actionable guidance.
• Strong business acumen with experience in customer discovery, experimentation, product validation, or go-to-market strategy.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple student teams simultaneously.
• Passion for working with ambitious students in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
• Strong commercial judgment and the ability to distinguish meaningful progress from activity.
• Prior experience mentoring founders, startup teams, student entrepreneurs, innovation programs, incubators, or accelerators is highly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree required; a Master's degree or MBA is an advantage.
