CNC Controls engineer

Position: Controls Engineer

Duration: 6-month contract + extension

Location: Romulus, MI

Start Date: November 1, 2026

Shift Information:

• Hiring manager is hiring for all shifts
• 7-day operation during November, December, and January (manager open to providing periodic days off)

Must Haves:

• 5+ years of controls engineering experience
• Strong CNC machining knowledge: experience troubleshooting CNC controls and machine functionality
• Siemens Sinumerik One or Siemens Solution Line or Fanuc CNC experience (CNC softwares)
• Ability to independently diagnose machine issues and determine root cause
• Comfortable supporting a high-demand manufacturing environment and multiple shifts

Preferred Qualifications:

• Grob machining center experience
• Module machine experience
• FFG machine experience
• Automotive manufacturing experience
• Global Common Architecture (GCA) experience
• Rockwell controls experience
• Machine launch, startup, or commissioning experience

Day to Day

Insight Global is seeking experienced CNC Controls Troubleshooting Specialists to support a major GM manufacturing facility in Romulus. These individuals will serve as senior-level technical resources responsible for diagnosing and resolving CNC machine issues, supporting production operations, and providing guidance to junior technicians. The team will support both legacy Siemens Solution Line controls and newer Siemens Sinumerik One controls. Candidates with strong Fanuc troubleshooting backgrounds will also be considered. This role requires hands-on problem solving, strong machining knowledge, and the ability to quickly identify and resolve machine downtime issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve CNC machine and controls issues on the production floor.
• Support Siemens Solution Line and Siemens Sinumerik One controlled equipment.
• Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior technicians and support personnel.
• Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to minimize downtime.
• Support launch and startup activities as needed.
• Assist with machine optimization and continuous improvement efforts.
• Document issues, corrective actions, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Support operational needs across multiple shifts.
• Help ensure equipment reliability, safety, and production targets are achieved.
