CNC Grinding Setup Operator

We are seeking an experienced CNC Grinding Setup Operator (5+ years) to set up and operate advanced multi-axis CNC grinding equipment used to manufacture complex, tight-tolerance cutting tools and medical components.

This is a skilled setup position requiring someone who understands the complete grinding process and can independently take a job from blueprint through setup, first-piece approval, and production.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate advanced multi-axis CNC grinding machines.
• Perform complete machine setups, including grinding wheels, wheel packs, tooling, fixtures, collets, and workholding.
• Load and adjust programs based on job and part requirements.
• Set and verify machine offsets, tool positions, and grinding parameters.
• Set up and utilize automatic probing and measuring systems.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints, dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
• Understand and produce complex part and cutting-tool geometries.
• Select appropriate grinding wheels and understand wheel type, grit, bond, and application.
• Dress, condition, and maintain grinding wheels as required.
• Establish and adjust feeds, speeds, depths of cut, and other grinding parameters.
• Perform first-piece inspections and make machine or program adjustments to bring parts into specification.
• Monitor dimensions and part quality throughout production and make necessary offset corrections.
• Use micrometers, indicators, comparators, vision systems, and other precision inspection equipment.
• Maintain extremely tight tolerances and required surface finishes.
• Troubleshoot dimensional, geometry, surface-finish, wheel, tooling, and machine-related issues.
• Complete required production and inspection documentation.
• Work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing to resolve production issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve setups, cycle times, wheel life, quality, and overall process efficiency.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of CNC grinding or comparable precision grinding experience preferred.
• Strong experience performing complete machine setups, not simply operating established jobs.
• Experience with multi-axis CNC machining or grinding equipment.
• Strong understanding of CNC machine operation, offsets, positioning, and program adjustments.
• Knowledge of grinding wheel selection, wheel packs, dressing, conditioning, and wheel wear.
• Experience setting up tooling, collets, fixtures, and precision workholding.
• Ability to understand complex cutting-tool and part geometries.
• Strong blueprint-reading skills and understanding of tolerances and GD&T.
• Experience producing components requiring tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes.
• Proficient with micrometers, indicators, comparators, vision/optical inspection equipment, and other precision measuring tools.
• Ability to inspect a first piece, identify dimensional or geometry issues, and independently make the necessary machine adjustments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with automated loading, probing, or in-process measuring systems is a plus.
• Experience in medical device, cutting tool, aerospace, or other high-precision manufacturing is strongly preferred.
