CNC Laser & Press Brake Operator

Custom Air Group is an established business with 33 years' experience specialising in Design, Manufacture, Supply & Installation of Custom Air Conditioning systems & Customised Sleeper Cabin Fit outs. Our Head Office & Factory is based in Somerton Victoria. We have several divisions that make up our company which cover Design, Metal Fabrication, Assembly, Painting, Installation & Automotive Trimming.

About the role

Custom Air Group is seeking a CNC Laser & Press Brake Operator to join our manufacturing team in Somerton, Victoria. This is a permanent, ongoing opportunity for a skilled operator who can hit the ground running. Previous laser cutting experience is preferred; however, we are also open to candidates with a strong mechanical background who are willing to learn. This role requires a self-motivated, responsible person with excellent trade qualities & Communication skills who is able to work unsupervised and as a part of a team, reporting directly to the General Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC press brake machinery - LVD Easyform-9 170-Tonne Press Brake
• Set up and operate Fibre laser cutting machinery - LVD Puma 6kW dual-bed laser
• Read and interpret engineering drawings
• Read and interpret shop drawings
• Understand and operate LVD-compatible software suite
• Create programs at the machine
• Select and prepare sheet metal for the laser cutting process
• Complete re-nesting where required to maximise material utilisation and minimise waste
• Complete first-cut checks and milestone quality checks throughout production
• Perform QA checks and accurately measure in-process and completed parts
• Prioritise work orders according to urgency and production targets
• Load and unload steel plates using forklifts and overhead cranes
• Fabricate and assemble components from engineering drawings
• Operate workshop machinery including saws, drills and mills
• Complete assembly, finishing and quality inspections
• MIG and TIG welding on steel, stainless steel and aluminium
• Assist with testing and introducing new processes or technology

About you

• Experience operating CNC Laser / Press Brake is highly desirable
• Ability to read and interpret engineering/shop drawings
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
• Ability to accurately measure and perform quality checks
• Ability to work to production deadlines and prioritise work orders
• Strong mechanical background
• Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes
• Reliable transport and a strong work ethic
• Current Australian Driver's Licence
• Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident with unrestricted, ongoing Australian work rights
