CNC Lathe Operator

We’re looking for an experienced CNC Lathe Operator to join a well-established engineering business based in Woolston, Christchurch.

This is a hands-on machining role involving a variety of short production runs, so you won’t be running the same component day after day. You’ll need good CNC lathe operating experience, confidence using precision measuring equipment and a strong focus on producing accurate, quality work.

Experience setting up CNC lathes would be a definite advantage, but isn’t essential if you’re a capable operator with the right experience and attitude.

Location: Woolston, Christchurch
Contract: Full-time, ongoing
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm, with some overtime available
Pay: $30–$40 per hour depending on skills and experience

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate CNC lathes to produce components to specification
• Work across a variety of short production batches
• Read and work from engineering drawings
• Check dimensions and tolerances throughout production
• Use verniers, micrometers and other precision measuring equipment
• Make appropriate machine and tooling adjustments where required
• Monitor machining quality and identify potential issues
• Maintain accurate and consistent workmanship
• Assist with CNC lathe setup where your experience allows
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised work area

Skills and Experience Required:

• Previous experience operating CNC lathes
• Good understanding of machining processes
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Confident using verniers, micrometers and other measuring equipment
• Able to accurately check dimensions and tolerances
• Comfortable working across different components and short production runs
• Good attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work independently and as part of the wider workshop team

CNC lathe setup experience would be a strong advantage and could suit someone looking to utilise a broader range of machining skills.
