What they need

Join a team where precision, quality and craftsmanship matter.

Myriad Engineering is a proudly New Zealand-owned precision engineering company delivering high-quality manufacturing solutions across a diverse range of industries. We are known for our technical capability, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to producing world-class components and assemblies.

We are looking for an experienced 5-Axis CNC Machinist & Programmer to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in producing quality components, and is looking for a long-term career within a progressive engineering business.

This role goes well beyond simply programming and operating machines. We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and adaptable all-rounder who is willing to contribute wherever needed and help drive excellence throughout the workshop.

About the Role

As our 5-Axis CNC Machinist & Programmer, you will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating advanced CNC machinery to manufacture precision-engineered components to tolerance.

You will play a key role in ensuring jobs are delivered efficiently, accurately, and on time while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on position within a fast-paced environment where initiative, versatility, and attention to detail are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

CNC Programming & Manufacturing

  • Develop, edit, optimise and prove-out CNC programs for complex 3-axis and 5-axis machining operations
  • Program, set and operate CNC mills and machining centres
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, cutting parameters and machining strategies
  • Conduct first-off runs and make program adjustments as required
  • Improve machining efficiency through cycle time reduction and tooling optimisation
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications and tolerances
  • Manufacture components to specification while meeting productivity and quality targets

Quality & Inspection

  • Perform first-off, in-process and final inspections
  • Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and CMM equipment
  • Ensure all work meets customer and company quality requirements
  • Maintain accurate records and job documentation

Workshop Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist with manual machining operations where required
  • Support turning, milling, assembly and finishing activities across the workshop
  • Help maintain a clean, organised and efficient work environment
  • Contribute ideas and initiatives that improve safety, quality, productivity and workflow
  • Support team members and assist where priorities shift to meet customer requirements

About You

We are looking for someone with strong technical capability, but just as importantly, the right mindset and attitude.

You will ideally have:

  • Trade qualification in Engineering, Machining, Toolmaking or equivalent industry experience
  • Extensive experience programming, setting and operating CNC machining centres
  • Proven 5-axis machining experience
  • Strong knowledge of CAM software and CNC programming principles
  • Experience with a range of materials including aluminium, stainless steel, engineering plastics and exotic alloys
  • High-level understanding of machining processes, tooling selection and workholding methods
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment, including CMMs
  • Strong understanding of quality systems and tolerance control
  • Experience within a high-precision manufacturing or jobbing environment

The Person We're Looking For

More than anything, we're looking for someone who:

  • Is proactive and takes ownership of their work
  • Is a hands-on all-rounder who is willing to help wherever required
  • Has a strong focus on quality and getting things right the first time
  • Maintains consistent productivity and works efficiently without compromising standards
  • Has exceptional attention to detail
  • Learns quickly and embraces new technology, processes and challenges
  • Thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Works well within a team and contributes positively to workshop culture
  • Values continuous improvement and actively seeks better ways of doing things
  • Takes pride in maintaining a clean, organised and professional workspace
  • Is dependable, punctual and highly reliable
  • Is looking for long-term employment and an opportunity to grow with the business

What We Offer

  • Competitive remuneration based on experience and capability
  • Modern machinery and advanced manufacturing technology
  • Diverse and challenging projects across multiple industries
  • A supportive, skilled and collaborative team environment
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and upskilling
  • Stable long-term employment with a growing New Zealand engineering company
  • The opportunity to make a real contribution and have your ideas heard
