What they need

Plastic-Craft Products Corp. is a family-owned plastics fabrication and distribution company in West Nyack, NY, in business since 1932. We are ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D certified. We machine acrylic, polycarbonate, HDPE, UHMW, PVC, PTFE and other engineering plastics for aerospace, industrial, retail display and custom prototype work, from one-off prototypes through production runs, on both manual and CNC equipment.

We are looking for an experienced machinist to run our machine shop processes. Much of our work is three-dimensional: contoured and sculpted parts machined from 3D models on 3D-capable CNC equipment. We need a machinist who is genuinely comfortable in 3D, not only flat and profile work. We program in CAMWorks off SOLIDWORKS models, so real skill in both matters to us.

This is a hands-on job in a prototyping shop. The work changes constantly, jobs are often short-run, and you own the part from setup to inspection. Machining plastics is not the same as machining metal. Feeds, speeds, tooling, heat and chip control all behave differently, so plastics experience is a real plus, though we will train the right machinist who has solid CNC fundamentals.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC machines for 3D milling, drilling, 3D turning and grinding

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, 3D models and samples, and produce parts to spec

Program 3D toolpaths in CAMWorks from SOLIDWORKS models

Select the right machine, tooling, fixturing, feeds and speeds for each job

Take precise measurements with calipers, micrometers and gauges, and hold tolerance on soft and heat-sensitive materials

Monitor machines in process and adjust to hold quality on long or unattended cuts

Inspect finished parts against specifications and document results

Troubleshoot machine faults and perform routine preventive maintenance

Work off manual equipment as well as CNC when a job calls for it

Keep the work area, tooling and materials organized and safe

Qualifications

2+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience

Capable of 3D machining on 3D-capable CNC equipment: 3D milling and 3D turning, working from 3D models, not 2D profile work only. This is a core requirement for the role.

CAMWorks and SOLIDWORKS skills. These are what we run here and our 3D toolpaths come out of them, so we weight this heavily. Strong experience in a comparable CAM package with real willingness to convert will be considered.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately

Experience with Fanuc controls and CNC lathe and mill operation

Comfortable with precision measuring tools: calipers, micrometers, indicators

Comfortable with tooling selection, power tools and shop equipment

High school diploma or GED

Valid driver's license (Class D)

Reliable daily transportation to the West Nyack worksite

Available for the Monday to Friday day schedule to start

Related experience will be considered in place of a strict CNC-only background. We are not hiring at the trainee level for this opening.

Nice to have

Experience machining plastics: acrylic, polycarbonate, HDPE, UHMW, PTFE

Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) experience for quality control

Familiarity with Lean manufacturing practice

Exposure to plastics injection molding

Aerospace or AS9100 quality-system experience

Schedule and pay

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 40 hours per week to start. Later shift hours may become available in the future, but this role begins on the day schedule. Occasional overtime when a job runs long. Pay is $25.00 to $40.00 per hour depending on experience, paid bi-weekly.

Benefits

Health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401(k), paid vacation, paid sick leave and paid holidays.

How to apply

Apply through LinkedIn, or email your resume to [email protected], or call us at 845-358-3010 Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Feel free to call to follow up after you apply. We would rather hear from you than lose you to a spam filter.
