At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

We are looking to add a CNC Machinist III to our team. In this role you will perform machining operations to manufacture precision components for products and platforms. This role contributes to manufacturing operations by independently setting up CNC equipment, resolving machining issues, and producing high-quality components that satisfy engineering, manufacturing, and quality requirements.

Working cross-functionally with manufacturing, engineering, quality, production control, and supply chain teams, the CNC Machinist III supports machining activities from setup through final inspection.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate CNC machines to manufacture complex precision components using approved machining programs, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Perform machine offsets, tooling adjustments, program verification, and setup optimization to support production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to maintain quality, productivity, and equipment performance.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools.
  • Verify completed parts meet engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Document inspection results, production data, nonconformances, and corrective actions in manufacturing records.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, production control, and supply chain teams supporting production activities.
  • Support new product introductions, tooling improvements, machine setups, preventive maintenance, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to team members on machining practices, equipment operation, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Apply machining procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, and company policies throughout production.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while supporting 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, manufacturing efficiency, and equipment utilization.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or technical certification in CNC machining, precision manufacturing, machining technology, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of related experience in CNC machining, precision machining, manufacturing, or related production operations.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining, machining processes, manufacturing drawings, GD&T, and shop mathematics.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, machine setup techniques, and dimensional inspection methods.
  • Strong understanding of machining materials, cutting tools, tooling selection, quality requirements, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting complex machining operations while balancing quality, productivity, and schedule requirements.
  • Exercises sound judgment when resolving machining issues and supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • CNC machine controls and manufacturing software, e.g. Haas, Fanuc, Mazatrol, Siemens, or equivalent systems.
  • Manufacturing execution systems (MES), ERP systems, and electronic work instruction applications, e.g. Epicor, SAP, Solumina, or equivalent applications.
