What they need
Experienced CNC Programmers Only — This Is NOT an Operator Position
A&E Machine Shop, Inc. | Lone Star, TX
$27.00–$36.00/hour, based on experience | Full-Time | In Person
PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING
A&E Machine Shop, Inc. is hiring an experienced CNC Programmer who can independently program, set up, and operate CNC equipment.
You must have previous hands-on CNC programming experience to be considered for this position.
This position is NOT intended for candidates whose CNC experience is primarily:
- Loading and unloading material or components
- Pressing cycle start and monitoring a machine
- Running programs written by someone else
- Making basic offset adjustments only
- Performing production operator duties without programming
- Assisting another machinist with setups
We need a machinist who can receive a blueprint or drawing and determine how to machine the job from start to finish.
What You Must Be Able to Do
A qualified candidate must be able to independently:
- Create CNC programs for mills and/or lathes
- Program from blueprints, drawings, and job specifications
- Write, edit, and troubleshoot G-code
- Determine machining sequences and operations
- Perform complete CNC machine setups
- Select tooling, inserts, and appropriate work holding
- Determine speeds and feeds
- Establish work offsets and tool offsets
- Prove out new programs safely
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, and machining problems
- Make program changes when required
- Machine work to specified dimensions and tolerances
- Inspect your own work using precision measuring equipment
- Take a machining job from blueprint → programming → setup → machining → inspection
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Applicants who do not meet the following requirements should not apply:
- Previous professional, hands-on CNC programming experience
- Ability to create CNC programs — not simply run existing programs
- Experience setting up CNC mills and/or lathes independently
- Working knowledge of G-code
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Ability to determine tooling, work holding, speeds, feeds, and machining sequences
- Ability to work with dimensions and tolerances
- Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments
- Strong shop math skills
- Ability to troubleshoot machining problems without constant supervision
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious
Preferred Experience
We are especially interested in candidates with:
- 2+ years of CNC programming and machining experience
- HAAS, Mazak, FANUC, or similar CNC control experience
- Experience programming both CNC mills and CNC lathes
- CAD/CAM programming experience
- SolidWorks experience
- Manual machining experience
- Job-shop or industrial machining experience
- Custom, repair, prototype, or one-off machining experience
- Welding or fabrication knowledge
Our Work Is Not Repetitive Production Machining
A&E Machine Shop, Inc. performs industrial and job-shop machining. Our work can include custom components, repairs, one-off jobs, and projects requiring the machinist to determine the best approach rather than simply run the same production program repeatedly.
We are looking for someone who understands machining — not just machine operation.
Interview Screening
Qualified applicants should be prepared to explain:
- What CNC machines they have personally programmed
- What CNC controls they have used
- Whether they have programmed mills, lathes, or both
- How they create or modify CNC programs
- Their experience with G-code
- Their experience performing complete machine setups
- What CAD/CAM software they have used, if applicable
- An example of a machining job they programmed and set up themselves
If you have operated CNC machines but have not personally programmed them, this position is not the right fit.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and work around machining equipment for extended periods
- Ability to safely handle tooling, materials, and machined components
