This role requires advanced CNC setup and operation capabilities, strong blueprint interpretation, and the ability to independently determine tooling methods, machining sequences, and process improvements.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled machinist with experience producing complex tooling from raw material, troubleshooting manufacturing challenges, and partnering with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to support production requirements.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and program CNC mills, lathes, and other machine shop equipment used to manufacture tooling and production support components.
- Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software and G-code.
- Manufacture precision tooling components, dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and prototype parts from raw stock.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD-generated prints, and specifications.
- Select proper tooling, cutting parameters, machine speeds, feeds, and workholding methods for each application.
- Perform tooling repairs, modifications, rework, and preventative maintenance to maximize tool life and performance.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and dimensional issues and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality departments to develop tooling solutions that improve safety, quality, and productivity.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments.
- Verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
- Assist in the development of new tooling, fixtures, and process improvements supporting forging and machining operations.
- Perform visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections of tooling and dies as required.
- Operate multiple machines when appropriate to support department productivity goals.
- Maintain accurate records related to tooling modifications, repairs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Support company quality system requirements and manufacturing best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, bore gauges, thread gauges, and surface plates.
- Strong shop mathematics skills including geometry, trigonometry, and precision calculations.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining processes and identify process improvements.
- Computer proficiency sufficient to load, edit, and manage CNC programs and production documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely handle tooling, fixtures, and production materials.
- Ability to work around machine tools, cutting fluids, noise, and manufacturing equipment.
