CNC Lathe Machinist – Doosan Puma 4100 (Live Tooling)Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join our growing machine shop. The ideal candidate will be able to independently set up, program, and operate a Doosan Puma 4100 CNC lathe with live tooling while maintaining high standards for quality and efficiency.

This position is for a self-motivated machinist who takes pride in producing precision parts, solving machining challenges, and continuously improving processes.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Doosan Puma 4100 CNC lathes with live tooling.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Program parts from prints using G-code and/or conversational programming.
• Edit and optimize existing CNC programs for improved cycle times and tool life.
• Select proper tooling, workholding, and machining strategies.
• Calculate and adjust speeds, feeds, and depths of cut for a variety of materials.
• Machine tight-tolerance precision components while maintaining excellent surface finishes.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy and ensure all parts meet customer specifications.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues.
• Work with stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, aluminum, copper alloys, and other engineered materials.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production schedules.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of CNC lathe experience.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC lathes with live tooling.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T.
• Ability to write, edit, and troubleshoot G-code programs.
• Strong understanding of speeds and feeds for a wide range of materials, including:
• Stainless steels (304, 316, 17-4 PH, Nitronic)
• Carbon and alloy steels
• Aluminum
• Brass and bronze
• Nickel alloys (Monel, Inconel) preferred
• Experience selecting tooling, inserts, drills, boring bars, and workholding.
• Ability to hold close tolerances and produce high-quality finishes.
• Proficient with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, thread gauges, and other inspection equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Reliable attendance and positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Doosan CNC machines.
• Experience with Fanuc controls.
• Experience machining aerospace, oil & gas, or high-performance alloy materials.
• Ability to improve cycle times and optimize machining processes.
• Experience with multi-operation parts requiring milling, drilling, tapping, and live tooling.
