CNC Operator – 5-Axis CNC Machine

Omegaverse is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Operator to operate and monitor our Large Format 5-Axis CNC machine. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality composite tooling according to specifications, ensuring machine efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to a safe and productive manufacturing environment.

Purpose of the Role

The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring Large Format 5-axis CNC machines to manufacture large scale composite tooling according to CAD models, quality standards, and production schedules. The role ensures efficient machine operation, product quality, and adherence to safety and maintenance procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machining router according to work instructions and technical specifications.
• Load and unload raw materials, fixtures, and finished components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and process documentation.
• Monitor machining operations to ensure dimensional accuracy and product quality.
• Identify and report machine malfunctions, tooling issues, or quality concerns.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
• Change, adjust, and maintain cutting tools and tool offsets as required.
• Work closely with programmers, engineers, and quality personnel to resolve technical issues.
• Follow all health, safety, environmental, and quality management procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency.

Technical Competencies

• Have a good understanding or proven experience operating 5-axis CNC machining centers.
• Strong understanding of CNC machining principles and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of tooling, cutting parameters, feeds, and speeds.
• Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment is advantageous.
• Understanding of CNC controls such as, Siemens Sinumerik.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to machining operations.
• Familiarity with quality management systems and inspection procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 / High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Trade qualification in machining, toolmaking, or a related engineering field preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience operating CNC machines, with at least 2 years on 5-axis equipment preferred.
• Experience in aerospace, automotive, medical, precision engineering, or similar manufacturing environments is advantageous.

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Paardeneiland, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
