CNC Operator

Qualification: Secondary education plus vocational/technical training in CNC machining, fabrication or a related trade is preferred.

Experience: At least 2-5 years of CNC operating experience in manufacturing, fabrication, joinery, marine or shipyard operations.

Accountabilities:

Machine Setup & Operation

• Perform pre-start checks and set up assigned CNC equipment, tooling, zero points, feeds, speeds and approved machine parameters.
• Load the correct material and approved CNC program and verify job identity before machining.
• Monitor cutting/machining and make only authorized operating adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.

Drawing, Program & Material Verification

• Read drawings, nesting plans, dimensions and production instructions.
• Confirm correct drawing/program revision, material grade/type, thickness and dimensions before cutting.
• Stop and report discrepancies between drawings, programs, materials or actual requirements before production continues.

Quality & Material Yield

• Inspect finished components using appropriate measuring instruments and verify critical dimensions/profile.
• Identify, segregate and report non-conforming components.
• Optimize material use, identify reusable offcuts and minimize scrap in accordance with material-control procedures.

Maintenance, Safety & Records

Perform operator-level cleaning and preventive maintenance and report tool wear, abnormal vibration/noise or machine faults.

• Follow guarding, emergency-stop, PPE, lifting and lockout/tagout requirements as applicable.
• Record output, machine time, downtime, scrap and other production information as required.
