What they need

Turn precision into products. Build your next chapter.

Bring your CNC expertise to work you can see, shape, and take pride in. Somerville, a growing woodworking, acrylic, and metal company serving the retail industry, is looking for a hands-on CNC Operator/Programmer. You’ll turn detailed drawings into precisely crafted products, combining programming and machining with cabinet construction and acrylic laser work. If you enjoy technical challenges, varied materials, and the opportunity to broaden your shop-floor skills in a long-term role, this could be your next move.

Why this opportunity stands out

  • Variety in your work: Apply your skills across CNC programming, machining, cabinet construction, and a wide range of materials.
  • Hands-on impact: Help turn designs into accurately machined and assembled products for the retail industry.
  • Room to expand your skills: Learn other machinery and take on bigger challenges with a growing company.
  • Collaborative projects: Work closely with design, project management, and shop-floor colleagues to deliver quality results.

What you’ll do

  • Program and operate CNC machinery.
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and cabinet plans.
  • Read work orders and tag products as required.
  • Prepare CNC files and optimize parts for production.
  • Set up tooling, load programs, and adjust machine parameters for optimal equipment performance.
  • Maintain production files and keep revision levels aligned.
  • Ensure parts are accurately machined and assembled to specifications.
  • Consistently produce usable products that meet the dimensional specifications in engineered drawings.
  • Collaborate with project management, design, and other departments to maintain high quality standards.
  • Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Learn to use other machinery in the Mill Machine department.
  • Support shop-floor operations with other duties as assigned or required.
  • Work with a range of materials, including MDF, plywood, melamine, laminate, plastic, HDPE, PVC, Gatorfoam, and metal.
  • Laminate panels and other millwork components.
  • Troubleshoot CNC or programming issues when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop.
  • Assess tool condition and identify when tools need re-sharpening.
  • Follow all safety protocols and work in compliance with ISO, OHSA, and company standards.

What you’ll bring

  • A college diploma in Mechanical Engineering or similar field of study.
  • 3 plus years of proven experience as a CNC Operator/Programmer.
  • Strong experience operating and programming CNC machinery.
  • Experience with Biesse-works and b-solid, and knowledge of SolidWorks, would be strong assets.
  • Strong understanding of cabinet construction and manufacturing.
  • A certificate or diploma in CNC Machining would be an asset.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, with knowledge of engineering-specified tolerances.
  • Proven measurement and mathematical skills, including the use of tape measures and calipers.
  • Knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and changing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in accurate workmanship.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for hands-on technical challenges.
  • Proven measurement and mathematical conversion skills.
  • A self-starting approach and the ability to work independently.
