Position Summary

A precision manufacturing company serving highly regulated industries is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer with strong lathe and mill-turn programming experience. This position is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs used to manufacture complex, tight-tolerance components from a variety of high-performance materials.

The ideal candidate combines advanced CNC programming expertise with a strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, GD&T, and CAD/CAM software. This individual will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations to improve machining processes, resolve production challenges, and ensure components meet demanding customer and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs for multi-axis CNC lathes and mill-turn machining centers.
  • Create machining strategies using CAD/CAM software for complex, tight-tolerance components.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, workholding methods, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters.
  • Program and support machining of materials such as titanium, nickel-based alloys, stainless steel, aluminum, and other specialty metals.
  • Perform program prove-outs and support first-piece and first article inspection activities.
  • Troubleshoot CNC programs, tooling, setups, and machining processes to resolve production issues and minimize downtime.
  • Optimize programs and manufacturing processes to reduce cycle times and improve productivity.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations to address technical and production challenges.
  • Maintain CNC program documentation, setup sheets, tooling information, and revision histories.
  • Support continuous improvement and root-cause analysis initiatives.
  • Ensure machining processes comply with applicable quality, safety, and customer requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of experience programming and supporting CNC lathes and mill-turn equipment.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, ESPRIT, Siemens NX CAM, Fusion 360, or comparable platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of G-code, M-code, CNC machining practices, and cutting tool technology.
  • Strong understanding of multi-axis machining and complex part geometries.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, quality, and production teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience programming CNC equipment within aerospace, defense, medical, energy, or another highly regulated precision manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Mazak, Okuma, Siemens, Mori Seiki/DMG MORI, or similar machine controls.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 or comparable quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with First Article Inspection requirements and AS9102.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability analysis.
  • Experience machining complex components from titanium, Inconel or other nickel-based alloys, stainless steel, and specialty materials.
  • Technical degree, apprenticeship, or certification in CNC Programming, Manufacturing Technology, Machining, or a related discipline.

Key Competencies

  • CNC lathe and mill-turn programming
  • Multi-axis machining
  • CAD/CAM programming
  • GD&T and blueprint interpretation
  • Cutting tool and machining process development
  • CNC program optimization
  • Root-cause troubleshooting
