CNC Programmer – Plasma & Robotic Cutting

Position Summary

The CNC Programmer – Plasma & Robotic Cutting is responsible for developing and maintaining programs used in the cutting and fabrication of steel components for Erie Strayer equipment. This position works with CNC plasma cutting equipment, robotic cutting systems, CAD software, nesting programs, and production drawings to efficiently prepare parts for fabrication.

The ideal candidate has CNC programming and CAD/CAM experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Experience with robotic plasma cutting, beam cutting, or similar equipment is preferred but not required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and maintain CNC programs for plasma cutting and robotic cutting equipment.
• Program and support a 6-axis Fanuc robotic plasma cutting system and CNC plasma burning table.
• Review structural and mechanical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine programming and cutting requirements.
• Create and modify 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar CAD software.
• Utilize cutting and nesting software to maximize material utilization and production efficiency.
• Prepare programs and production information needed to support fabrication operations.
• Review programs and drawings for accuracy prior to release to production.
• Troubleshoot programming, cutting, and equipment-related issues and make necessary adjustments.
• Work closely with Engineering, Production, and fabrication employees to resolve drawing or manufacturing questions.
• Maintain organized program files, drawings, and related production documentation.
• Support continuous improvement efforts related to cutting processes, material utilization, quality, and productivity.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous CNC programming experience in a manufacturing, machining, or metal fabrication environment.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and mechanical blueprints and fabrication drawings.
• Experience with 2D and/or 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD or Inventor.
• Strong computer, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with Production, Engineering, and other departments.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Associate degree or technical training in CNC programming, manufacturing technology, CAD, engineering technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
• Ability to work occasional overtime, including Saturday mornings, based on production needs.
