CNC Programmer/Operator

Element Steel is a commercial steel fabricator in Nisku, AB, producing miscellaneous steel packages for commercial construction projects. We are hiring a CNC Programmer / Operator to program and run our Machitech plasma table and Dragon A400 tube processor. Junior applicants with a fabrication background and a willingness to learn will be considered; we will train the right person.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret shop and detail drawings, part lists, and revisions; confirm material, dimensions, holes and copes before programming, and flag discrepancies before cutting.
• Program and nest parts for the Machitech 6'x12' downdraft plasma table (Hypertherm Max Pro 200), selecting the correct cut process and lead-ins and nesting efficiently to maximize plate yield and usable drops.
• Program tube and pipe profiles, copes, notches, holes, and markings in BendTech for the Dragon A400 plasma tube processor.
• Set up and operate the plasma table and Dragon, including plate squaring and zeroing, torch height, consumable changes, and amperage/speed settings, producing clean cuts with minimal dross and rework.
• Set up and operate the Jesse Co. T-65 mandrel pipe bender and bandsaw.
• Inspect first parts and production run against drawings; clearly mark and identify finished parts.
• Safely load and unload raw and finished materials using overhead cranes and rigging.
• Complete daily equipment checks and routine maintenance (consumables, downdraft/slag clean-out, lubrication) and keep accurate records.
• Prioritize programming and cutting to support the production schedule and keep fitters supplied with the right parts at the right time.
• Identify and communicate material shortages, equipment malfunctions, and production bottlenecks to the Supervisor.
• Keep the CNC area, program files, and drop/remnant inventory clean and organized in alignment with company housekeeping standards.
• Follow safe work procedures, wear required PPE, and actively participate in Health & Safety Program initiatives.
• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Must Have:

• Experience in a steel fabrication or manufacturing shop.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and use measuring tools.
• CNC operating or programming experience (plasma, tube processing, or similar), OR a strong fabrication background and a willingness to learn CNC programming.
• Comfortable working on a computer and learning nesting software.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding shop environment.
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Reliable, safety-conscious, and committed to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work 5 days a week.

Assets:

• BendTech experience or plasma nesting software experience.
• Overhead crane ticket.
• Mandrel pipe bending experience.
• Preparing DXF files.
• Welding or fitting experience.

Pay:

• $21.00 – $29.50 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated programming skills.

• 44 hours per week (9 hours x 4 shifts and 8 hours x 1 shift)
