Overview

Join our dynamic manufacturing team as a CNC Set Up Operator and be at the forefront of precision metal machining! In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce high-quality components. Your expertise will ensure efficient production processes, adherence to strict quality standards, and continuous improvement in machining operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced equipment and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques in a fast-paced environment that values precision, safety, and innovation.

Duties

  • Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) models to determine machining requirements.
  • Set up CNC machines including lathes and milling machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and programming parameters.
  • Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, CNC programming software, or CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) systems such as Mazatrol to produce precise parts.
  • Perform machine calibration and alignment using precision measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Conduct manual machining tasks when necessary to supplement CNC operations or perform adjustments.
  • Monitor machine operation during production runs to detect issues related to tooling wear or machine malfunction; make adjustments as needed.
  • Inspect finished parts utilizing GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), measurement instruments, and quality control procedures to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area; perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment to maximize uptime.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to troubleshoot issues and implement process improvements aligned with lean manufacturing principles.

Skills

  • Proficiency in CNC G-code programming and CNC programming software; experience with Mazatrol is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical blueprint reading and mechanical blueprint interpretation.
  • Knowledge of machining tools, tooling setup, and manual machining techniques including lathe operations and grinding processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software such as SolidWorks or general CAD systems for interpreting design files.
  • Ability to operate precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators for quality inspection.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to metal machining processes including CNC milling, lathe work, grinding, and bore operations.
  • Experience with measurement for quality control purposes; understanding of GD&T standards is essential.
  • Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, tolerances, feed rates, speeds, and other machining parameters.
  • Knowledge of M-code commands used in CNC G-code programming for tool control and machine functions.
  • Familiarity with manual machining tools such as hand tools and power tools for setup adjustments or secondary operations.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles aimed at reducing waste while maintaining high-quality output.

This role is ideal for motivated individuals passionate about precision manufacturing who thrive in a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning and technical excellence!
