CNC Setter/Operator

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Machine Setup

• Set up CNC machines according to job requirements.
• Mount and align workpieces, fixtures, and clamping devices.
• Select and install the correct cutting tools, inserts, and tool holders.

2. Program Loading and Editing

• Load CNC programs into the machine controller.
• Verify program details and tool paths before production.
• Make minor program edits and offsets when authorized.

3. Tool Setting and Offsets

• Set tool length and tool geometry offsets.
• Set work offsets such as G54 and other work coordinate systems.
• Check tool wear and replace damaged or worn cutting tools.

4. Machine Operation

• Operate CNC turning, milling, VMC, or HMC machines as assigned.
• Perform trial runs and first-piece inspections.
• Monitor machining cycles and ensure smooth production.

5. Quality Inspection

• Inspect components using vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other measuring instruments.
• Check dimensions against engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Maintain component quality and report non-conformities.

6. Production Planning

• Meet production targets and cycle-time requirements.
• Minimize machine downtime, tool breakage, and material wastage.
• Maintain production records and shift reports.

7. Troubleshooting

• Identify machining problems, dimensional variations, and tool wear.
• Take corrective action within the permitted scope.
• Inform the supervisor or maintenance team about machine faults.

8. Safety and Housekeeping

• Follow machine safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
• Maintain 5S standards and keep the machine area clean.
• Follow preventive maintenance and coolant management procedures.

9. Documentation

• Maintain setup sheets, inspection reports, and tool-life records.
• Record production quantities, rejection quantities, and downtime.
• Follow work instructions and quality procedures.

Skills Required

• CNC machine setting and operation
• Reading engineering drawings
• Knowledge of GD&T and tolerances
• Tool selection and offset setting
• Knowledge of G-codes and M-codes
• Use of precision measuring instruments
• Basic CNC troubleshooting
• Knowledge of 5S, safety, and quality standards

Pay: ₹8,000.00 - ₹34,000.00 per month
