What they need

Job Title: Coffee Bar Manager

Locations: Oversees coffee program and standards across all locations

Reports To: General Manager / Operations Manager

Position Summary The Coffee Bar Manager is the resident coffee expert across all locations, responsible for leading the team on all things coffee — quality, consistency, technique, and education. This role works hands-on behind the bar at each location, sets and upholds coffee standards company-wide, trains and coaches baristas on craft, and serves as the primary point of contact for equipment technicians and outside coffee trainings/certifications across the growing footprint.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee Program Leadership

  • Own and uphold consistent coffee quality standards across all locations — dialing in espresso, dose/yield/extraction times, milk texturing, pour-over/batch brew methods, and recipe consistency
  • Taste-test and calibrate espresso at each location; adjust grind, dose, and recipes as beans age or change
  • Help develop and standardize drink recipes, seasonal menu items, and brew guides so every location tastes the same
  • Maintain cupping/tasting notes and stay current on the roaster's offerings, origin info, and flavor profiles
  • Set and enforce cleanliness and maintenance standards for coffee equipment at every location
  • Travel regularly between locations to ensure consistency and catch quality drift before it becomes a pattern

Barista/Team Leadership

  • Work rotating shifts on bar across locations, leading by example on speed, quality, and hospitality
  • Train new baristas at all locations on espresso, milk steaming, latte art, and brew methods from day one
  • Run ongoing skill-building for teams company-wide (latte art practice, new techniques, recipe rollouts)
  • Coach baristas in real time during shifts; give feedback on technique and consistency
  • Identify and develop team members with strong potential (future trainers, shift leads) at each location
  • Designate and support a "Shift Lead" or point person at each site to help maintain standards when the Coffee Bar Manager isn't on-site

Equipment & Vendor Coordination

  • Serve as primary contact for coffee equipment technicians across all locations — schedule routine maintenance, calibrations, and repairs for espresso machines, grinders, and brewers
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues before escalating to a technician
  • Coordinate with the roaster/vendor on trainings, new product rollouts, and educational opportunities for teams at every location
  • Schedule and organize outside trainings or certifications (e.g., latte art workshops, SCA courses) for staff development across the company
  • Help standardize equipment specs and setup as new locations open, ensuring consistency from day one

Inventory & Ordering

  • Conduct regular inventory/order counts behind the bar at both locations (coffee, dairy, syrups, cups, food items, etc.) and communicate with Operations Manager
  • Maintain par levels and ordering guides so staff can support counts between GM visits and communicate with Operations Manager

Quality Control & Standards

  • Conduct regular quality checks/audits at each location (consistency, cleanliness, technique)
  • Maintain and update training materials, recipe cards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) used company-wide
  • Monitor customer feedback related to drink quality across locations and address recurring issues
  • Partner with each location's General Manager on inventory needs specific to coffee (beans, dairy, syrups) to ensure freshness and proper rotation
  • Serve as the coffee standards resource when new locations are added, helping train opening teams

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on barista experience; 1+ years in a lead or training role preferred
  • Strong technical coffee knowledge — espresso extraction, milk texturing, brew methods, coffee origins/processing
  • Comfortable training and coaching others across multiple sites and skill levels
  • Experience working with equipment vendors/technicians a plus
  • Latte art proficiency preferred
  • Passion for coffee education and staying current on industry trends
  • Strong communicator, patient teacher, and hands-on leader
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel regularly between locations

Compensation & Benefits

We believe in recognizing strong performance and providing opportunities for advancement. Starting pay: $16/hour plus tips (tips are consistently very strong at our locations) This position will receive priority shifts. Compensation will be reviewed based on performance, initiative, reliability, and the ability to take ownership of the role. Opportunities for an increase may occur within the first 6 months for individuals who demonstrate strong performance, consistently meet expectations, take initiative, and make a meaningful contribution to the success of the store. As the company grows and additional locations are added, there will also be opportunities for increased responsibility, leadership, and compensation.

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
  • Employee discount at both locations 20%-40%
  • Paid time off after 6 months (PTO)
  • Free or discounted coffee/food during shifts
  • Professional development support
  • Potential for 401k/ health benefits starting in 2027

Growth Path

Strong potential to grow into a Coffee Director or Director of Training role as the company continues expanding locations into new markets, with oversight of coffee standards, quality, and training across all locations.

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Employee discount
  • Flexible schedule
  • Paid time off
  • Paid training
