What they need
Collections Specialist
VMK Concrete
VMK Concrete is seeking a motivated, organized, and results-driven Collections Specialist to join our team. This position is responsible for actively managing customer accounts, collecting past-due balances, resolving payment issues, and maintaining accurate collection documentation.
The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of collections or accounts receivable experience, communicates confidently with customers, and knows how to balance professional customer service with persistent follow-up and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned portfolio of customer accounts and actively pursue past-due balances.
- Make outbound collection calls and send follow-up emails regarding outstanding invoices.
- Review accounts receivable aging reports and prioritize collection efforts based on delinquency and account status.
- Contact customers regarding payment status, payment commitments, discrepancies, and overdue balances.
- Document collection activity, customer communications, payment promises, and account updates accurately and consistently.
- Research and resolve invoice disputes, short payments, unapplied payments, and other account discrepancies.
- Assist with payment applications and ensure payments are properly applied to customer accounts.
- Obtain remittance information and supporting documentation when necessary.
- Coordinate with accounting, sales, dispatch, and other internal departments to resolve customer account issues.
- Maintain organized documentation related to collections, disputes, notices, and customer correspondence.
- Assist with lien-related documentation, notices, deadlines, and collection files as required.
- Escalate seriously delinquent or high-risk accounts to management when appropriate.
- Follow up consistently on customer payment commitments and outstanding action items.
- Help maintain accurate customer account information and collection records.
- Meet established collection goals and contribute to reducing past-due accounts and overall accounts receivable aging.
- Perform additional accounts receivable and collection duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of collections, accounts receivable, or related accounting experience required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable making frequent collection calls and professionally discussing past-due balances with customers.
- Strong follow-up skills and the ability to remain persistent while maintaining positive customer relationships.
- Ability to review aging reports, invoices, account statements, and payment histories.
- Experience researching and resolving billing or payment discrepancies.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and general accounting or ERP systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information professionally.
- Construction, concrete, ready-mix, materials, or similar industry experience is a plus.
- Experience with lien documentation or construction-related collection procedures is a plus.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their accounts and gets results. The successful candidate will be proactive rather than waiting for customers to call, comfortable having direct conversations about payment, and disciplined about following accounts through resolution.
You should be able to work with urgency, keep detailed records, identify potential collection problems early, and communicate effectively with both customers and internal team members.
Position Expectations
Success in this role means maintaining consistent collection activity, keeping customer accounts well documented, resolving disputes quickly, following up on payment commitments, and helping VMK Concrete reduce outstanding receivables.
