What they need
About the job
Legacy Online School is a WASC-accredited private K-12 online school headquartered in Florida, serving families around the world. Our College Guidance program takes students from course planning to acceptance letter, whether they’re applying in the US, the UK, Canada, Europe, or beyond.
We’re looking for a part-time College Counselor who has guided students through real admissions cycles and knows how to turn a student’s story into a strong application. You’ll own a caseload of students, work closely with their parents, and help shape a program that is growing fast.
Responsibilities
- Own a caseload of high school students (grades 9 to 12) across our College Guidance packages, from early planning through final decisions
- Build personalized college lists and academic plans aligned with each student’s goals, strengths, and budget
- Coach students through every part of the application: personal statements, supplemental essays, activity lists, resumes, interview prep, and recommendation strategy
- Advise on testing strategy (SAT/ACT, test-optional decisions) and coordinate with our SAT/ACT prep options when needed
- Guide families on scholarships, financial aid (FAFSA, CSS Profile, merit aid), and deadlines
- Lead webinars and workshops for students and parents on admissions, scholarships, and career planning
- Keep parents informed with clear, regular progress updates and practical ways to support their child
- Share your expertise with our admissions team so every family is matched to the right level of support
- Keep accurate student notes and timelines in Legacy’s college planning platform
What you bring
- 3+ years of hands-on college counseling or independent educational consulting experience with high school students
- Deep knowledge of US admissions: Common App, ED/EA/RD strategy, and selective admissions
- Working knowledge of at least one non-US system (UK/UCAS, Canada, Europe, or other)
- A track record you can speak to: students you’ve guided and where they were admitted
- Confidence presenting to groups of parents and students online
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to give essay feedback that is honest, specific, and encouraging
- Strong organization and self-direction in a remote setting with many students and deadlines running in parallel
Nice to have
- A certificate in college counseling (for example, a UCLA, UC Berkeley, or UC Irvine Extension program) or membership in NACAC, IECA, or HECA
- Experience with international students or online and homeschool transcripts
- Experience supporting student athletes, arts applicants, or students with learning differences
- Admissions office experience at a college or university
Schedule
- About 10 to 20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling
- Some evening and weekend availability: our families live in time zones from the Americas to the Middle East and Asia
Compensation
- Fully remote, flexible hours
- Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience
