What they need
Overview
Elevation Academy is looking for a commercially minded Commercial Content Developer to help us identify, create and launch the next generation of technical training courses for the fire, security, electrical and wider building-services sectors.
This is much more than a traditional instructional-design role.
We are looking for someone who can spot a commercial opportunity and then take it from idea to market: researching demand, defining the target customer, designing the course, creating the learning and assessment materials, establishing the delivery model and producing the complete course package required for a successful commercial launch.
You will work closely with our experienced technical tutors, industry specialists, sales and management team. You do not need to personally be the technical expert in every subject; your strength will be knowing how to research a market, work with subject-matter experts and turn their knowledge into a professional, engaging and commercially viable product.
Our ambition is to build a growing portfolio of high-quality face-to-face, blended and digital courses that respond quickly to changing legislation, standards, technology and employer requirements.
Responsibilities
Identify Commercial Opportunities
Research the fire, security, electrical and related technical markets to identify opportunities for new courses.
This will include monitoring:
- Changes to legislation, British Standards and industry guidance
- New technologies and products
- Employer skills shortages
- Mandatory and compliance-driven training requirements
- Industry certification and competency requirements
- Customer and learner demand
- Competitor course offerings, pricing and delivery models
You will develop clear recommendations for new courses based on market demand, commercial potential and Elevation Academy's ability to deliver them successfully.
Develop the Commercial Proposition
For each viable opportunity, create a clear business case covering:
Target market → learner profile → customer need → course content → delivery method → duration → accreditation/certification → pricing → delivery cost → margin → expected demand → route to market.
The objective is to ensure we develop courses that people and employers genuinely want to buy, rather than simply creating training content and then looking for a market.
Create the Complete Package
Take approved concepts through to a launch-ready product.
Depending on the course, this could include:
- Course specification and learning outcomes
- Detailed scheme of work
- Lesson plans and tutor guides
- Learner workbooks
- Presentations and teaching materials
- Practical exercises
- Technical diagrams and supporting resources
- Knowledge assessments and examinations
- Practical assessments
- Marking schemes and answer guides
- Digital and e-learning modules
- Video and micro-learning content
- Pre-course and post-course materials
- Certification requirements
- Equipment and consumables lists
- Tutor competency requirements
- Quality assurance documentation
- Learner feedback and evaluation materials
Develop Digital & Blended Learning
Create high-quality digital learning that complements our practical and classroom training. You will structure, storyboard and author learning pathways across areas including:
- Electrical installations
- Fire detection and alarm systems
- CCTV
- Access control
- Intruder alarms
- Integrated security systems
- Building services and associated compliance subjects
You will use modern e-learning tools and our LMS to create engaging, professional content rather than simply converting classroom presentations into online slides.
Work With Technical Experts
Our tutors and industry specialists hold a considerable amount of practical knowledge.
A major part of your role will be interviewing and working alongside these subject-matter experts to turn their experience into structured, repeatable and commercially valuable training products.
You will be comfortable challenging content, asking the right questions and converting complex technical information, standards and regulations into training that learners can understand and apply.
Support Apprenticeship & Curriculum Development
Alongside commercial courses, you will support the development of high-quality digital theory resources for our apprenticeship provision.
This will include mapping appropriate content to relevant Apprenticeship Standards, Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs), assessment requirements and End-Point Assessment preparation.
Our current specialist areas include Fire, Emergency & Security Systems (FESS) and Electrical/Electrotechnical training.
Take Courses Through to Launch
You will own the development process from initial concept through to commercial launch.
For each new product, you will coordinate the elements required to make the course ready to sell, including:
Research → business case → course design → technical validation → learning materials → assessments → pilot delivery → feedback → revisions → pricing → sales information → launch.
You will also work with our sales and marketing team to provide the information they need to promote each course effectively, including course descriptions, key benefits, target customers, prerequisites and technical selling points.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role will be measured not simply by the amount of content produced, but by the creation of high-quality courses that successfully reach the market and generate profitable revenue.
We would expect you to build and manage a pipeline of potential new courses, prioritise the strongest commercial opportunities and progressively expand Elevation Academy's portfolio.
You will also review courses after launch, using learner feedback, employer feedback, sales performance and profitability to improve existing products and identify the next opportunities.
About You
We are looking for someone who combines commercial curiosity with strong instructional-design skills.
You are likely to have experience in training, instructional design, technical education, digital learning or course development and enjoy taking ownership of projects from an initial idea through to completion.
Ideally, you will bring:
- At least 3 years' experience in instructional design, course development, technical training or digital learning
- Strong commercial awareness and an interest in identifying new market opportunities
- Experience creating complete training programmes rather than individual pieces of learning content
- The ability to research unfamiliar technical subjects and quickly understand the important issues
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Experience working with subject-matter experts
- An understanding of assessments, learning outcomes and curriculum design
- Confidence using modern e-learning authoring tools and LMS platforms
- Strong project-management and organisational skills
- The ability to manage several course-development projects simultaneously
Experience or knowledge of the electrical, fire, security or wider building-services sectors would be particularly valuable.
Familiarity with areas such as BS 7671, BS 5839, ECS/JIB requirements, apprenticeship standards and KSBs would also be advantageous, although we recognise that no candidate is likely to be an expert across every technical discipline.
Useful Additional Experience
We would particularly welcome candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Articulate 360 / Rise / Storyline or similar authoring platforms
- LMS administration
- Video recording and editing
- Technical or engineering training
- Apprenticeships and End-Point Assessment
- Qualification or accreditation development
- Working with awarding organisations
- Commercial training businesses
- Developing learning for people with differing levels of academic confidence
Pay: £35,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company events
- Company pension
- Free parking
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
