What they need

Commercial Director – Luxembourg (Commercial Insurance Advisory, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Polish Speaker)

Our client is a fast-growing advisory firm in a very mature industry. It works with a broad range of corporate clients on every stage of the insurance process, from analysing risk and drafting contracts and policies to managing and resolving complex, high-stakes claims.

The firm is known for a thorough, forensic approach and exceptionally high-quality work. It is not afraid to uncover uncomfortable truths or challenge accepted wisdom. As part of its continued growth, the firm is now opening a new office in Luxembourg.

This is a rare opportunity to be a founding figure in the firm's new Luxembourg office. Based in Luxembourg, you'll play a key role in launching the office and shaping its development. That means building its client base, establishing its presence in the local and wider European market, and growing a high-performing team around you.

Alongside this, it remains a hands-on leadership role. You'll run your own portfolio of client accounts while overseeing, coaching and developing junior Project Managers and Associates. A central part of the job is taking end-to-end ownership of written-lines tenders and complex renewal exercises, and you'll act as a trusted point of contact for senior client stakeholders.

  • Play a leading role in opening the Luxembourg office, helping to set up its operations, ways of working and standards from day one.
  • Drive the office's growth by building the client base, raising the firm's profile, and spotting new business opportunities in Luxembourg and across Europe.
  • Help recruit, develop and lead the Luxembourg team, shaping a culture that reflects the firm's forensic, high-quality approach.
  • Manage a portfolio of client engagements from project set-up through delivery, renewal and close-out, including complex and strategically important accounts.
  • Lead insurance tenders and renewals: set the strategy, build and run the timetable, brief brokers, and hold brokers and insurers to account on quality and deadlines.
  • Review and compare broker and insurer proposals on structure, pricing, security, service and value, and turn complex market information into clear recommendations for clients.
  • Lead or support broker and insurer meetings and negotiations, challenging constructively where needed.
  • Keep tight control of project scope, resourcing, budgets, timelines, reporting and records, and flag risks early with clear recommendations.
  • Work closely with technical specialists so that coverage requirements and wording improvements are reflected in market activity.
  • Build strong client relationships, manage expectations on demanding projects, and expand the services you provide.
  • Oversee, quality-assure and coach junior colleagues, helping them take on more ownership of client and broker work.
  • Build a strong network of broker and insurer contacts in Luxembourg and beyond, and help set consistent standards across the team.

What you'll bring

  • Substantial experience managing insurance tenders, renewals and broker relationships, ideally in commercial insurance, broking or risk advisory.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other European language (French, German, Italian, Spanish or Polish).
  • The entrepreneurial drive and resilience to help build a new office from the ground up.
  • The confidence and judgement to engage with senior client stakeholders on complex accounts.
  • Strong project-management skills and a disciplined approach to budgets, timelines and compliance.
  • The ability to analyse complex proposals and present clear, decision-useful advice.
  • Experience of supervising, reviewing and developing junior team members.
  • A commercial mindset and a drive to raise standards.
  • Knowledge of the Luxembourg or wider European insurance market would be a strong advantage.

Why apply?

You'll join a business that is actively changing how commercial insurance is done, at the moment it expands into Luxembourg. You'll have real ownership of high-profile client work and a genuine say in how a new office is built. That gives you the chance to shape its team, culture and growth from the very start.
