Duties

• Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, vans, and paratransit vehicles in accordance with state and local laws.
• Transport passengers—including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
• Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, providing wheelchair assistance as needed.
• Follow all transportation safety regulations, traffic laws, and emergency response procedures to prevent accidents and respond effectively in emergencies.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical issues; perform basic mechanical knowledge checks when necessary.
• Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective language skills; respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments.
• Manage passenger behavior through positive behavior management techniques and enforce school or transit policies to ensure a safe environment.
• Complete accurate logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle inspections; report any safety concerns or mechanical problems promptly.
• Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger questions or concerns professionally and courteously.
• Assist with loading heavy luggage or equipment when required, ensuring proper handling to prevent injury.

Skills

• Proven experience operating commercial vehicles such as buses, vans, or paratransit vehicles with a valid CDL license.
• Strong knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency stop procedures.
• Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
• Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management techniques for working with children or students.
• Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt routes efficiently while maintaining safety standards.
• Knowledge of emergency response procedures specific to transportation environments including CPR and first aid certification (preferred).
• Mechanical aptitude for basic vehicle inspections and troubleshooting minor issues; understanding of vehicle maintenance is advantageous.
• Demonstrated commitment to passenger safety, customer service excellence, and community engagement.
• Physical ability for heavy lifting when assisting passengers or loading equipment; comfortable working in various weather conditions.
• Multilingual skills or experience working with diverse populations—including seniors or individuals requiring special assistance—are highly valued.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
