Providence Mutual is seeking a motivated and relationship-focused Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our Underwriting team. This role is responsible for evaluating, selecting, and pricing commercial insurance risks while managing a territory of independent agency partners. The successful candidate will combine strong underwriting judgment, analytical thinking, and relationship-building skills to support profitable growth and exceptional service.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate, price, and develop coverage terms for Personal Lines policies.
• Review new business applications and determine appropriate underwriting actions, including accepting, modifying, or declining risks.
• Maintain a profitable book of business within assigned underwriting authority.
• Analyze risk characteristics, exposures, loss potential, and pricing adequacy.
• Build strong working relationships with agencies and communicate underwriting decisions effectively.
• Partner with Business Development Managers to support profitable growth and agency development initiatives
• Meet production, profitability, and quality goals.
• Assist in evaluating agency performance and identifying opportunities to improve portfolio profitability.
• Deliver product knowledge and underwriting education to agency partners.
• Participate in agency visits, planning meetings, audits, and industry events.
• Contribute to process improvements, workflow enhancements, and best-practice development.
• Serve as a positive team contributor and advocate for continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and multiple business systems.
• Valid driver's license with ability to travel occasionally for agency visits and meetings

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience.
• Knowledge of commercial insurance products, coverages, contracts, and pricing methodologies.
• CPCU or other professional insurance designation.
• Pursuit of additional insurance designations.
• Experience underwriting a broad range of commercial lines exposures.
