What they need
Commercial Manager
Key right-hand role supporting the Managing Director
Levin location
Drive change | big picture thinking | broad commercial acumen | key role
Who are we
Mitchpine is a third-generation family business that recently celebrated its 50-year anniversary. Since 1975, we have produced quality outdoor wood products and built a reputation for excellence — we know a thing or two about wood. With around 80 staff, major capital projects completed, and strong foundations in place, our next step is to drive growth.
The Role
This newly created, business-critical role will work alongside our Managing Director as a strategic partner and trusted advisor. You will be responsible for the financial health, business intelligence, people systems, and commercial integrity of the business — translating numbers into decisions, driving improvement initiatives, and leading culture change across the organisation.
High level responsibilities include:
· Financial Management and analysis (Accredo)
· HR and people management
· Health, safety and compliance
· IT and Commercial contracts
· Innovation and Improvement initiatives
About you
You bring energy, accountability, and strong attention to detail. You know what to look for in the numbers and are equally comfortable engaging with people on the production floor. You work in a structured, process-driven way, with a strong focus on forward thinking and continuous improvement. Your communication style is clear and direct, and you build strong, effective working relationships across the business.
Experience you’ll bring
You are a highly experienced Commercial Manager and ideally CA or CPA qualified, although this is not essential. You bring hands-on experience with financial controls, payroll, ERP systems, and broad commercial matters such as contracts, leases, insurance, and related business obligations.
You bring a demonstrated track record of delivering business improvement initiatives, leading HR and culture change, and working alongside a hands-on owner/MD and acting as a trusted sounding board.
Your industry experience ideally spans manufacturing sectors, particularly sawmilling, timber processing, or wood treatment within SMEs and owner-operated businesses.
Why join us
This role will play a key part in driving growth and creating capacity for our Managing Director to focus on what he does best. We are a business that celebrates success, whether through boss’s shouts, our mid-winter day, or the everyday effort we put into building a positive culture. Our team includes a diverse range of cultures and long-serving people, and we have a strong, ongoing focus on health and safety.
