Commercial Manager – Civil Construction & Energy

Catalpa is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to own the commercial side of our civil construction and energy projects. If you’ve spent your career in contracts, claims and cost control, and you can sit down with a client or subcontractor and come away with a better deal for everyone, this one’s for you.

Our project pipeline is getting bigger and more complex. In this role you’ll lead the commercial function, build a high-performing team, and help decide which projects we take on and how they finish.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading, mentoring and developing the commercial and contracts administration team, with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Running the negotiation, preparation and administration of head contracts, subcontracts and supply agreements across the full contract lifecycle.
• Managing variations, change orders, claims and disputes to protect Catalpa’s position.
• Identifying commercial risk early and putting practical mitigation strategies in place.
• Working with Finance and Project Controls on budgets, forecasts and cost control so projects land on target.
• Acting as the main point of contact for commercial matters with clients and external stakeholders.
• Reporting to the General Manager and senior leadership on project performance, profitability, risks and opportunities.

What you’ll bring

• 8+ years in commercial management or contract administration within civil construction, infrastructure or energy.
• A proven record managing the commercial side of large-scale civil and energy projects.
• A strong working knowledge of construction law and Australian Standard contracts.
• A degree in Law, Business, Construction Management or a related field. Postgraduate study (MBA, Master of Commercial Law) is highly regarded.
• The analytical skills to read complex contracts and financial data and turn them into clear decisions.
• Negotiation and stakeholder skills that build trust while still protecting value.
