The Opportunity

We are working with a leading independent construction consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager at Senior Associate level to support the delivery of a major infrastructure project.

This is a senior, client-facing position with responsibility for leading the commercial management and administration of an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract on behalf of the client.

The successful candidate will work closely with the client's project leadership team, providing commercial and contractual advice, overseeing contractor obligations and managing the commercial aspects of project delivery.

The position is London-based with hybrid working and occasional travel to project sites in Kent and Germany.

Key Responsibilities

As Commercial Manager, you will act as the client's commercial lead, taking responsibility for the administration and management of the EPC contract.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the commercial management and administration of an EPC contract under FIDIC on behalf of the client.
  • Act as the key commercial interface between the client, EPC contractor and wider project delivery team.
  • Provide contractual and commercial advice to the client, ensuring compliance with contract terms, obligations and procedures.
  • Manage contractual correspondence, notices, instructions and associated documentation.
  • Lead the assessment and negotiation of variations, claims and contractual changes, including their time and cost implications.
  • Review and assess contractor payment applications in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Oversee cost reporting, forecasting, cashflow and financial performance, providing accurate commercial information to the client.
  • Identify and manage contractual and commercial risks, advising on mitigation measures and potential exposure.
  • Support the resolution of commercial disagreements and disputes through negotiation and effective contract administration.
  • Work closely with project controls, planning and technical teams to assess the commercial implications of programme changes and project developments.
  • Provide regular commercial reporting and recommendations to senior client stakeholders.
  • Maintain appropriate contract records, governance procedures and audit trails throughout project delivery.

About You

We are particularly interested in speaking with experienced Commercial Managers who have a strong background in contract administration, EPC delivery and major infrastructure projects.

Essential Experience:

  • Significant commercial management experience on major construction, infrastructure or engineering projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of FIDIC contracts, with demonstrable experience of contract administration.
  • Experience managing or administering EPC contracts, including an understanding of contractual obligations, commercial risk and contractor responsibilities.
  • Extensive post-contract commercial management experience, including variations, claims, payment assessment and change control.
  • Experience operating in a senior commercial capacity, providing contractual and commercial advice directly to clients.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of complex commercial matters and manage relationships with senior project stakeholders.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience administering FIDIC Silver Book (EPC/Turnkey Projects) contracts would be particularly advantageous.
  • Previous experience within a construction consultancy or client-side commercial management environment.
  • Experience delivering major energy, utilities or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with international contractors or on projects involving multiple geographical locations.
  • A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • MRICS or an equivalent professional qualification.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to take a leading commercial role on a significant infrastructure project, working directly with the client and taking ownership of a major EPC contract.

You will be joining an established consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering complex projects across the infrastructure sector.

The position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, manage challenging contractual matters and further develop your career at Senior / Associate level.
