Commis Chef

About the role

As a Commis Chef, you'll be an important part of the YONA kitchen team. You'll work alongside talented chefs, take pride in your craft, and play a hands-on role in preparing and delivering the food that makes YONA special. We have a variety of Commis roles covering Hot, Cold, Fry and Pizza. This is a temporary role until 30th April 2027. There is the possibility that this position may be made permanent however it depends on the business demand at the time.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients and help cook dishes, following recipes and instructions from your senior chefs.
• Set up your section with everything ready before service, taste every dish, and check with your senior chef that it meets YONA's standards before service starts.
• Keep your work station clean and organised and follow all food safety and hygiene rules (HACCP).
• Help receive, label, store, and rotate stock using first in, first out (FIFO), and report any shortages, quality issues, or equipment problems to your Demi Chef or Chef de Partie.
• Support other sections when the kitchen gets busy and help wherever the team needs you most.

About you

• A culinary certificate or diploma, or the same skills learned through hands-on kitchen experience.
• A positive attitude, a professional appearance, and a real passion for cooking, plus a strong willingness to learn and follow instructions.
• Good teamwork and clear communication, the ability to stay calm under pressure in a busy kitchen, and a basic understanding of food hygiene and safety practices.
• A steady work history: we are especially interested in candidates who have stayed in their previous jobs for a good length of time. Hotel, restaurant, or hospitality experience is a bonus.
