Commis Cook

About the role

We are seeking a Commis Cook to join the culinary team at Direka Katering Sdn. Bhd., located in Puchong, Selangor. This is a full-time position that offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in a fast-paced hospitality and catering environment. As a Commis Cook, you will work under the guidance of senior kitchen staff, contributing to the preparation and cooking of high-quality meals for our diverse clientele. This role is fundamental to maintaining our kitchen operations and upholding our commitment to culinary excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning of vegetables, proteins and other food items
• Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes according to established recipes and culinary standards
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness and organisation of assigned work stations
• Support senior chefs and kitchen staff in food preparation tasks and follow all given instructions accurately
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety and hygiene protocols, including proper storage and handling of ingredients
• Assist in plating and presentation of dishes to meet quality and aesthetic standards
• Maintain inventory awareness and communicate any shortages or issues to kitchen management
• Contribute to the overall efficiency and productivity of the kitchen during service periods

What we're looking for

• Completed culinary training or relevant qualification in food preparation and cooking
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards, with willingness to adhere to best practices
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining quality and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions from senior kitchen staff
• Physical stamina and capability to stand for extended periods and work in a warm kitchen environment
• Reliable, punctual and professional attitude with a commitment to continuous learning
• Experience with kitchen equipment operation is advantageous
• Familiarity with Malaysian and international cuisines would be beneficial
