Commission Manager (Data Center)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Data Center Commissioning Manager (CxM) to oversee and execute the complete commissioning process (Levels 1 through 5) for our hyperscale/enterprise data center construction projects. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls, and fire/life safety systems are installed, tested, and performing according to design intent, owner operational requirements, and industry standards. You will serve as the primary bridge between construction teams, third-party commissioning agents (CxA), equipment vendors, and operations teams.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop, review, and implement the overall Commissioning Plan, scripts, schedule, and quality assurance workflows
• Review design drawings, specifications, submittals, and sequences of operation (SOO) for commissionability and operational maintainability
• Coordinate with design engineers, contractors, vendors, and the owner's operational team to establish commissioning scope and milestones
• Lead commissioning Kick-Off meetings and set up reporting dashboards for tracking test progress and issues (Issues Log)
• Ensure rigorous execution across all standard data center commissioning levels including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Component Verification, Pre-Commissioning & Start-up, Functional Performance Testing (FPT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
• Manage the Commissioning Issues Log, tracking all functional defects, field engineering modifications, and vendor re-tests through complete resolution
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on failed tests or operational anomalies with design engineers and vendors
• Enforce strict safety protocols during testing, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Arc Flash safety procedures
• Review and approve final commissioning reports, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, as-built drawings, and warranty documents
• Facilitate hands-on operational training sessions for the facility operations team prior to turnover

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience
• 7+ years of experience in commissioning, QA/QC, or construction management for mission-critical / data center infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with core data center systems: Medium/Low Voltage Switchgear, UPS systems, Generators, EPMS/BMS, Chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, Direct-to-Chip cooling, or Evaporative Cooling
• In-depth understanding of Level 1 to Level 5 commissioning workflows
• Proficiency with load banking equipment, power quality meters, thermal imaging, and BMS/EPMS interfaces
• Familiarity with commissioning software (e.g., CxAlloy, BIM 360, Procore)
• Strong leadership with the ability to manage multi-disciplinary contractors under tight construction timelines
• Excellent problem-solving skills under pressure during high-stakes testing
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and executive updates
• Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), accredited Tier Designer / Specialist (Uptime Institute), or Professional Engineer (PE) license highly preferred
