Commissioning Engineer

Job description:

Are you a hands-on engineer with a strong eye for detail, a problem-solving mindset, and a passion for ensuring systems work exactly as intended?

Join the team at Impact Air Systems, a leading UK provider of pneumatic extraction, dust control, and material separation solutions.

Your role:

As a Commissioning Engineer, your job is to bring our systems to life. You’ll be responsible for commissioning newly installed equipment, resolving issues, training operators, and handing over fully operational systems to satisfied customers.

This role involves travel to customer sites across the UK (and occasionally abroad), with some overnight stays and weekend work as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare commissioning activities in coordination with the Project Manager (PM) and Technical Sales Manager (TSM)
  • Commission mechanical and electrical systems and complete detailed reports and checklists
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve system faults (mechanical and electrical)
  • Carry out any necessary remedial work on-site
  • Provide operator training to ensure safe and effective system use
  • Promote system maintenance best practices and introduce the Impact Technical Services (service and maintenance) team
  • Final system handover to the customer, ensuring full operational understanding
  • Ensure all required signage, decals, and site housekeeping are in place
  • Provide quality feedback to the PM and TSM, including snagging lists and installation reviews
  • Take photographs for project documentation and marketing purposes
  • Stay in touch with the customer post-handover to ensure satisfaction and resolve any follow-up issues

What You’ll Need

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge (fitting, wiring, troubleshooting)
  • Experience in system commissioning and fault finding
  • Understanding of site health & safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret basic electrical diagrams
  • Confident working on low-voltage systems, including isolations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills – verbal, written, and telephone
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • Organised, reliable, and able to meet deadlines
  • Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK and stay overnight as required
  • Possibility of oversees travel
  • Flexible regarding working hours (including some weekends)
  • You must have a full driving license and driving experience

Desirable:

  • PLC experience (a plus, but not essential)
  • Product knowledge of pneumatic systems and components (training provided)
  • Comfortable working solo on international projects

What Success Looks Like

  • The system runs exactly as intended and is handed over to a happy, confident customer
  • Any snags or faults are resolved swiftly and thoroughly
  • Customers are trained and aware of ongoing maintenance requirements
  • You’ve played a key role in upholding our commitment to quality, safety, and service

Why Work With Us?

At Impact Air Systems, we don’t just deliver projects — we deliver quality solutions and long-term value to our clients. You’ll be joining a supportive team with high standards and a shared commitment to doing things right.

We value initiative, craftsmanship, and customer focus. If you thrive on solving problems and seeing systems work exactly as they should — we’d love to hear from you.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Company pension scheme
  • Health cash plan
  • Opportunities to grow with the business
  • A positive, team-driven work culture
