Job Description: This is an opportunity to work directly in the field on large-scale battery energy storage projects from commissioning through customer acceptance. Rather than sitting in a purely coordination-focused role, the Commissioning Engineer will be hands-on with equipment, troubleshooting, inspections, system operation, and problem resolution while working alongside construction, network, project, technical, and customer teams. The role provides exposure to projects across the United States and allows engineers to build experience across the full commissioning lifecycle rather than being limited to one component of the process. Job Description: The Commissioning Engineer will support the field execution and commissioning of large-scale battery energy storage systems at project sites throughout the United States. This is a full-time travel position in which engineers move between project sites based on project schedules and commissioning needs. The engineer will work through established commissioning procedures and checklists, partner with construction teams during the commissioning process, inspect equipment, troubleshoot and resolve field issues, and verify that systems are functioning and operating as expected. Responsibilities progress through commissioning activities into hot commissioning, where the engineer will operate systems using SCADA software, and ultimately into customer acceptance testing. The position requires close coordination across internal network and project teams, third-party contractors supporting systems such as fire protection and inverter setup, and customer representatives. Engineers will help coordinate testing schedules, track work being performed by other teams, resolve issues that arise during commissioning, and communicate with customer operators to verify that system output and operation meet project requirements. This is a hands-on field engineering position. Engineers must be comfortable working directly with equipment, performing inspections, using electrical and hand tools, troubleshooting problems, and following detailed procedures while managing multiple activities at once. Travel is performed on a rotation basis. Engineers are typically onsite for approximately four to five weeks at a time and may then return home for approximately one week depending on project coverage and team coordination. Project assignments may continue at the same site or move to another location depending on project completion. Travel and related expenses are reimbursed. Typical site schedules are approximately eight hours per day, five days per week, with sites commonly beginning around 6:00 or 7:00 AM. As project activity increases, workdays may increase to approximately 10 hours and generally do not exceed 12-hour shifts. Some projects may require morning and afternoon/evening coverage, but overnight shifts are not part of the normal schedule. Required Skills: Hands-on electrical background with an understanding of electrical systems and how energy flows through equipment Approximately 25 years of relevant work experience; candidates with less experience may be considered when supported by relevant education Hands-on field experience working directly with equipment rather than solely coordinating the work of other teams Ability to troubleshoot equipment and field issues Experience Using Multimeters And Voltmeters Comfortable using basic hand tools including screwdrivers and drill sets Strong customer communication skills and ability to maintain effective relationships with customers and customer representatives Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple tasks, issues, procedures, and project requirements Ability to follow commissioning procedures, process flows, and detailed checklists Ability and willingness to travel full time and remain onsite for approximately four to five weeks at a time U.S. work status that allows future conversion to a direct employee Bonus/Soft Skills: Previous hands-on commissioning experience Experience directly leading commissioning projects while also performing the technical work Solar/PV Experience Battery energy storage or renewable energy industry experience SCADA Experience Procore experience Experience With Inspections And Field Quality Documentation NFPA 70E certification OSHA 10 certification CPR certification Electrical engineering or related technical education Experience working across construction, engineering, project, network, customer, and third-party contractor teams Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to apply existing technical knowledge to unfamiliar equipment and systems Welcome to ConsultNet, a premier national provider of technology talent and solutions.
