About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking experienced Commissioning Managers and Commissioning Engineers to support major data centre construction projects in Helsinki, Finland.

Our client is a leading international data centre construction specialist delivering large-scale, turnkey projects across Europe. With significant capacity under construction and a strong pipeline of projects, they are looking to strengthen their commissioning teams with experienced professionals who can support the successful delivery, testing and handover of critical infrastructure.

These opportunities are suited to commissioning professionals with experience in mission-critical environments, particularly data centres, who are comfortable working in fast-paced construction and delivery teams.

1. Freelance Commissioning Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate commissioning activities across all project stages, from pre-commissioning through integrated systems testing and final handover.
• Develop and manage commissioning programmes, procedures, documentation and test schedules.
• Coordinate commissioning teams, subcontractors, vendors and specialist suppliers.
• Oversee the testing and validation of critical mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ensure commissioning activities are delivered in line with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and programme milestones.
• Manage commissioning issues, defects and technical resolutions through to completion.
• Coordinate Level 1–5 commissioning activities, as applicable to the project.
• Work closely with construction, project management and client teams to ensure a smooth transition to operational readiness.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a Commissioning Manager or senior commissioning leadership role.
• Previous experience delivering large-scale data centre or other mission-critical projects.
• Strong understanding of MEP systems and commissioning methodologies.
• Experience managing subcontractors, commissioning teams and multiple workstreams.
• Familiarity with integrated systems testing, technical documentation and handover processes.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work on-site in Helsinki for the duration of the contract.

2. Freelance Commissioning Engineers

Key Responsibilities

• Execute commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical or other critical building services systems, depending on your specialism.
• Carry out inspections, functional testing and system verification in line with approved commissioning procedures.
• Support pre-commissioning, start-up, testing and integrated systems testing activities.
• Review technical documentation, test scripts, drawings and commissioning records.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during testing.
• Coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors, vendors and commissioning management.
• Maintain accurate test documentation and ensure outstanding issues are tracked through to resolution.
• Support system completion, client demonstrations and final project handover.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Commissioning Engineer within data centres, mission-critical facilities or comparable complex MEP environments.
• Strong technical knowledge in your relevant discipline, such as electrical, mechanical, HVAC or controls.
• Experience with functional testing, commissioning procedures and technical documentation.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, quality and site safety.
• Availability to work on-site in Helsinki on a freelance basis.
