Carter Wahlberg

Commodities Quant Trader (Oil, Metals, Ags)
Major Energy & Commodities Trading House - London (On-site / Hybrid)
A leading global energy and commodities trading house is expanding its systematic trading capability within a well-established proprietary trading desk. The team runs a diversified book across oil, refined products, ags and metals, and is building out a more model-driven, systematic sleeve alongside its core fundamental and relative-value strategies.
This is a high-ownership quant trading seat: you will build and run systematic strategies end-to-end and
trade them live, owning the risk and P&L
. The platform (data, backtesting, execution, risk) is already in place, so your focus is generating alpha and running the book, not rebuilding infrastructure. Well-built strategies translate straight into P&L, and the people who build them are the ones who trade them.
YOUR ROLE:

Build, deploy and
trade
systematic strategies across oil, refined products, ags and metals, using market data plus fundamental/alternative datasets (inventories, flows, weather, positioning, text, etc.).

Own the full cycle from idea to live trading: signal research, backtesting, stress testing, cost/slippage modelling, execution and live risk management.

Run your book day to day, managing exposures, position sizing and P&L, and iterating strategies based on performance attribution and changing market structure.

Work closely with senior traders and quants on research direction, portfolio construction and risk; contribute to business discussions as the systematic book scales.

Build and maintain your own research stack in Python and partner with quant developers to productionise strategies.

YOUR PROFILE:

3-5 years in a systematic quant
trading
(or research-to-trading) role at a hedge fund, prop shop, bank or major physical merchant, with a genuine signal-generation and live-trading track record.

Exposure to at least two of: oil & products, ags, metals; cross-commodity experience a strong plus.

Strong Python and SQL, comfortable in at least one OO language; able to build your own tools rather than wait for them.

Solid time-series modelling, statistical learning and portfolio/risk skills, with a track record of turning signals and domain insight into P&L.

Based in London or willing to relocate; on-site presence preferred to sit close to the desk.

WHAT'S ON OFFER:

A direct line from your models to live risk and P&L, you build the strategies and you trade them; discretion is reserved for genuine market dislocations, not second-guessing signals.

Access to extensive market data, fundamental research and physical-market insight across oil, ags and metals.

An experienced team of quants, traders and engineers who've already built the core infrastructure, so you focus on alpha and trading, not plumbing.

Competitive compensation with meaningful upside tied to the performance of the book you run.
