Commodity Manager

We're seeking an experienced procurement professional to lead the sourcing, qualification, and management of upcyclable raw materials for our feedmill operations. This role plays a central part in our circular-economy strategy, converting by-products from food and beverage manufacturing into high-value feed ingredients.

What You'll Do

Sourcing & Supplier Development
Identify, qualify, and onboard suppliers of upcyclable materials — including food and beverage manufacturers, grain millers, oilseed crushers, bakeries, distilleries, and food-waste processors. Build a diversified supplier base to reduce concentration risk and secure year-round material availability, while conducting site audits to assess origin, handling, and traceability.

Procurement & Contracting
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts (spot, forward, and framework agreements) that protect margins and hedge against commodity volatility. Manage forward purchasing and inventory planning aligned with production schedules, set quality specifications and acceptance criteria, and monitor commodity markets, freight, and currency exposure to guide pricing strategy.

Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Work closely with Quality Assurance and Nutrition teams to ensure all incoming materials meet feed safety, nutritional, and regulatory standards. Maintain full traceability documentation (Certificates of Analysis, Material Safety Data, origin declarations), oversee compliant handling of restricted-use materials, and drive corrective actions with suppliers on quality issues.

Logistics & Inventory Management
Coordinate inbound logistics — scheduling, freight, and receiving — to align with feedmill intake capacity and minimize spoilage or demurrage. Manage inventory turnover and shelf-life, and liaise with production on material characteristics affecting processing.

Sustainability & Reporting
Quantify and report volumes of materials diverted from disposal into feed use, maintain sustainability metrics (CO2e avoided, waste diverted), and promote the company's upcycling proposition to prospective supplier partners.

Team & Stakeholder Management
Lead and develop the raw-material procurement team where applicable, collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Nutrition, Finance, and Sales, and report procurement KPIs and supply risk to senior management.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Food Science, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field (Master's/MBA an advantage)
• 5–7 years' experience in commodity procurement, raw material sourcing, or trading — ideally within animal feed, food manufacturing, agribusiness, or grain/oilseed supply chains
• Demonstrated experience sourcing by-products, co-products, or recovered materials strongly preferred
• Solid understanding of feed raw materials, feed safety regulations, traceability requirements, and commodity risk management
• Proficiency in ERP/procurement systems and MS Excel
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills; sustainability-minded and detail-oriented

Working Conditions
On-site role at the feedmill with regular travel to supplier sites, processing facilities, and industry events (30–40% travel). Occasional out-of-hours coordination required during peak receiving periods or quality incidents. Valid driver's license required.

Reporting Line
Reports to the Head of Procurement / General Manager - Operations, with direct oversight of Raw Material Buyers/Schedulers where applicable. Key interfaces include Feedmill Production, Quality Assurance, Animal Nutrition, Finance, Logistics/Warehouse, and Sales.
