About the Role
Astrodyne TDI Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Commodity Specialist to manage our mechanical commodities portfolio. This is a strategic role that blends sourcing expertise with technical engineering insights. You will bridge the gap between procurement and engineering by reviewing technical drawings and material specifications to ensure optimal supplier selection, cost efficiency, and quality manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Sourcing: Lead the end-to-end strategic sourcing, negotiation, and contract management for mechanical parts and components.
- Technical Blueprint Review: Analyze engineering diagrams and main product drawings (e.g., assessing casing specifications, dimensions, diameters, depth, and material applications) to ensure component-to-product compatibility.
- Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage qualified suppliers to optimize manufacturing costs and ensure quality standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to align parts sourcing with main product designs and applications.
Job Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing or Commodity Management within the Manufacturing, Semiconductor, or Power Industry. Note: Candidates with backgrounds limited strictly to operational or junior buyer-level execution will not be considered.
- Commodity Expertise: Solid, proven background in sourcing Mechanical Commodities, specifically including Sheet Metal, Hardware, and Cable Assemblies (cable ass'y), alongside a strong foundational knowledge of PCB commodities.
- Engineering Acumen: Strong ability to function like an "engineer in purchasing". Must be highly proficient in reading and interpreting technical product drawings, blueprints, specifications, sizes, diameters, and engineering diagrams.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, contract management, and decision-making abilities with a keen eye for technical detail.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical), Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related technical field (preferred).
