Commodity trader

Job summary

We are looking for a driven and commercially minded Commodity Trader to join our team in Apapa, Lagos. You will sell agricultural and raw commodities, build strong supplier and buyer relationships, and help grow our trading volumes and profitability.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

• Source and purchase commodities from farmers, aggregators, and suppliers at competitive prices
• Identify and develop buyers, both local and export, and close sales deals
• Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers and customers
• Monitor market prices, demand trends, and seasonal changes, and advise management on trading opportunities
• Ensure commodity quality meets buyer specifications, including inspection, grading, and documentation
• Coordinate logistics, warehousing, transportation, and port or shipping processes where required
• Maintain accurate records of transactions, inventory, and payments
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with farmers, suppliers, and clients
• Travel to farm locations, markets, and client sites as needed
• Meet monthly and quarterly sales and profit targets

Requirements:

• The candidate must have prior experience trading raw and agricultural products, or be currently working as a trader of raw and agricultural products.
• Proven trading and sales experience
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
• Good understanding of Nigerian commodity markets, pricing, and supply chains
• Knowledge of export documentation and quality standards is an advantage
• Ability to work independently and deliver results under pressure
• Willingness to travel as required
• Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools
