Overview The Communications Manager helps lead the firm's communications team and is responsible for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the firm's internal and external written content. This person works directly with attorneys and firm leadership to produce clear, compelling communications that advance the firm's priorities and reflect its voice. The role requires excellent, senior-level editorial judgment, the ability to manage and develop a team, and genuine writing talent.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a team of writers, setting editorial direction and maintaining high standards for accuracy, style, and substance across internal and external communications.
  • Write and edit content across a range of formats, including client alerts, thought leadership, web content, presentations, remarks, attorney bios, and award submissions; producing polished, precise work under tight deadlines.
  • Ensure all materials are thoroughly proofread, fact-checked, and consistent with the firm's brand and editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, firm leadership, and business development colleagues to develop content, providing honest editorial counsel and managing competing priorities with confidence and good judgment.
  • Lead major communications projects from inception through publication, coordinating across stakeholders and ensuring timely execution.
  • Serve as a resource to the broader firm on writing and style questions.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree (English, journalism, or related field preferred).
  • Ten to fifteen years of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Law firm experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated writing ability that goes beyond correctness — clear, engaging prose with attention to tone, nuance, and audience. A body of published or bylined work is a plus.
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills, with the judgment to improve others' work while respecting their voice.
  • Ability to manage, inspire, and develop a team.
  • Comfort working directly with senior attorneys and firm leadership; strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Critical and strategic thinking: the ability to see individual projects in a broader firm context.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to prioritize and deliver under deadline pressure.
