What they need

Position: Communications Officer

Program: Administration

Classification: Full Time – Permanent

The Communications Officer independently manages, develops, and delivers the organization's overall internal and external communications strategy and function for Aakom-Kiyii Health Services (AKHS). Moving beyond general communications support, this role serves as the primary communications resource for leadership and all departments—overseeing strategic planning, brand management, digital communications, multimedia content production, internal communications, and community engagement. The role enhances public awareness, maintains high standards of consistency and cultural respect, and produces high-quality promotional, visual, and editorial content internally.

● Strategic Communications & Planning:

○ Develop, update, and implement comprehensive communications strategies and plans (including the Accreditation Canada Communication Plan) to support organizational goals.

○ Identify organizational communications needs and establish structures, standards, and processes to improve internal and external reach.

● Brand Management & Consistency:

○ Lead organizational rebrand initiatives and maintain brand standards, visual guidelines, templates, and branding kits across all departments.

○ Review all promotional, digital, and print materials to ensure strict alignment with established AKHS brand identity and cultural standards.

● Content Creation & Multimedia Production:

○ Conceptualize, design, and produce a wide range of in-house graphic design, promotional assets, flyers, brochures, posters, and recruitment materials.

○ Execute high-quality photography and videography for events, programs, social media, website, and organizational announcements using professional equipment.

○ Perform video editing and visual storytelling to document community activities, staff engagement, and health initiatives.

● Digital Communications & Platform Management:

○ Manage and update the AKHS WordPress website, ensuring accurate, timely, and accessible content.

○ Actively curate and grow social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), transitioning content from static posters to dynamic, photo/video-driven storytelling.

○ Oversee digital display channels including LED signage and internal communications boards.

● Publications & Internal Communications:

○ Write, design, and distribute monthly organizational newsletters using Adobe InDesign, incorporating original articles, health guidance, program highlights, and editorial updates.

○ Lead internal communications across departments, coordinating weekly updates ("Heads Up" / "Week at a Glance") and staff-wide announcements.

● Public Relations & Community Engagement:

○ Draft media releases, community announcements, and public communication campaigns.

○ Maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, government contacts, and Piikani Nation departments.

○ Track, analyze, and report monthly communication statistics, digital engagement insights, and campaign outcomes

Minimum requirement:

· Bachelor’s degree in communication, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
