What they need
Based at the university, BTSS partners with state agencies, the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, and The Learning Coalition. Its programs address poverty-related issues, including health care, education, housing, and economic opportunity. Better Tomorrow considers how these issues affect low-wage workers, families experiencing homelessness, older adults, students with financial need, and children. BTSS events bring together community voices, civic leaders, and public officials to share research and discuss practical responses. The VISTA member will strengthen BTSS’s capacity to do this work by developing checklists and procedures for event production; devising editing guidelines for podcasts; crafting templates for media communications; developing a community-partner outreach plan; and designing assessment instruments and reporting templates. These resources will help BTSS staff conduct events, produce podcasts, engage partners, and report on their work after the member’s service year. Ultimately, this work will help BTSS connect its programs with organizations serving low-income households and contribute to a more economically and socially resilient Hawai‘i.
