Location: Queens House, 58 Victoria Street, St Albans, AL1 3HZ (on-site)
Job type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: Competitive
Reports to: Operations Manager

About Queens House

Queens House is a luxury co-working space in the heart of St Albans. It’s set in a beautifully restored former straw-hat factory and is home to a close community of local businesses, freelancers and creatives. We’re more than just a desk: a space to collaborate, innovate and elevate.

Job purpose

The Community Host runs Queens House day to day, so every member walks into a space that works and feels like a community. You’ll be the first face members, guests and visitors see, and the person who keeps the building, the front desk and the community running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

Front of house and member experience

  • Greet members, guests and visitors warmly and professionally, setting the tone for a premium workspace
  • Manage the front desk, including phone and email enquiries, guest arrivals, post and deliveries
  • Onboard new members, covering access, keys, a building introduction and introductions to the community
  • Be the first point of contact for everyday member questions, requests and complaints, resolving them quickly or escalating where needed
  • Know our services, facilities and the local area well enough to give helpful recommendations

Building and operations

  • Open and close the building, carrying out regular walk-rounds to make sure it’s safe, clean and presentable
  • Keep shared spaces tidy, stocked and ready, including kitchens, meeting rooms and breakout areas
  • Log faults and maintenance issues the same day, call the right contractor using the process book, and follow up until they’re fixed
  • Escalate larger issues, compliance concerns or anything that affects the building to the Operations Manager

Bookings and sales support

  • Manage bookings for meeting rooms, the podcast studio and day passes, making sure everything is set up and ready on time
  • Respond to new enquiries, run tours for prospective members and follow up promptly
  • Hand over warm leads to the Operations Manager for pricing and contracts

Community and events

  • Plan and deliver a regular calendar of member events, at least one a month
  • Produce member newsletters and keep noticeboards and community channels up to date
  • Build relationships with members and encourage connections between them
  • Gather member feedback, flag what needs fixing and share insight that helps improve the space

Admin and process

  • Keep member records, bookings and logs accurate and up to date
  • Add front-of-house entries to the Queens House process book, so tasks can be picked up by anyone
  • Flag member payment or account issues to the Operations Manager

How success is measured

  • Enquiries answered within one working day
  • Faults logged the same day and chased until resolved
  • At least one member event every month
  • Members know who to go to and get a quick, friendly answer
  • The building is open, presentable and ready every day

Person specification

Essential

  • Experience in hospitality, front of house, coworking, customer service or a community role
  • Warmth and confidence, with excellent communication skills and an easy way with all kinds of people
  • Highly organised and reliable, with strong attention to detail
  • Able to juggle priorities and stay calm when things get busy
  • Happy to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in when the building needs it
  • Confident using email, booking systems and everyday digital tools

Desirable

  • Experience planning or running events
  • Social media or newsletter experience
  • First aid or fire marshal training, or a willingness to complete it

What we offer

  • A competitive salary
  • A full-time, permanent role
  • A beautiful place to work, in a building with real character
  • The chance to shape our community and events from the ground up
  • Ongoing support and training from the Operations Manager
