What they need
About Us
Toa Pacific is an NGO based in Ōtāhuhu, Auckland, committed to supporting Pacific communities and diverse populations. We provide services across family harm intervention, support for older people, Whānau Ora and wellbeing, helping individuals and families stay safe, connected and resilient.
Our team works alongside families and partner agencies to deliver practical, culturally informed support that recognises the holistic needs, strengths and aspirations of each whānau.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Whānau Ora Navigator to join our frontline team.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Pacific families by walking alongside them as they identify their goals, build on their strengths and work towards positive, lasting outcomes.
Whānau Ora navigation takes a holistic, whānau-led approach. You will support families across a range of areas, including health, housing, education, employment, income and wellbeing. Rather than focusing on a single issue, you will help whānau identify what matters most to them, develop a plan and connect with the right services and support to achieve their aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete whānau assessments and develop whānau-led plans with clear, achievable goals.
- Provide wraparound navigation and practical support across multiple areas of family life.
- Connect and coordinate access to health, housing, income, education, employment and community services.
- Advocate alongside whānau when engaging with agencies and service providers, following through to help ensure their needs are met.
- Monitor progress towards whānau goals and outcomes, celebrating achievements and adapting support as needed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with partner organisations, service providers and community networks.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records and contribute to Whānau Ora reporting requirements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners to achieve the best possible outcomes for whānau.
Skills, Experience and Attributes
We are looking for someone who combines professional social work expertise with a genuine commitment to Pacific families and community wellbeing.
You will bring:
- Registration as a Social Worker with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board, or eligibility for registration.
- At least two years of professional experience in social work or a related social service role.
- Experience in assessment, advocacy, support planning and working alongside individuals and families.
- The ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Pacific communities and people from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families, service providers and community organisations.
- A strengths-based, culturally responsive approach that empowers whānau to lead their own journeys.
- Practical problem-solving skills, initiative and the ability to navigate complex service systems to achieve positive outcomes.
- Sound professional judgement, ethical decision-making and strong written documentation and computer skills.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive team.
- A current, full New Zealand driver licence.
The ability to speak Tongan, Samoan or another Pacific language would be an advantage.
What We Offer
- Social Worker Pay Equity salary.
- Paid external professional supervision.
- Payment of your annual practising certificate.
- Additional leave, including birthday leave.
- Ongoing professional development opportunities.
- A family-friendly working environment.
- A supportive manager and a team that backs each other.
- The opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of Pacific families across Tāmaki Makaurau.
How to Apply
If you are passionate about empowering whānau, building strong community connections and helping families achieve their aspirations, we would love to hear from you.
Apply through SEEK with your CV and a short cover letter outlining:
- Your experience and approach to supporting individuals and families.
- Why you want to work with Pacific families and what draws you to Whānau Ora.
- Your Social Workers Registration Board registration status.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. The successful applicant will be required to complete Police vetting and reference checks.
