What they need

About the role

We're the proudly Kiwi owned and operated electric scooter and bike sharing company. Our mission is to offer people a fun, safe and easy way to get around.

We're looking for a confident, outgoing and personable Community Relationship Manager to join our team. If you love meeting new people, building meaningful relationships and want to be part of a company that's transforming the way people move around New Zealand, this role could be for you!

Community engagement is a big part of what we do at Flamingo. We believe that building strong relationships with councils, community organisations, local businesses and other stakeholders is essential to delivering a service that works for everyone.

This is a varied, people-focused role where you'll represent Flamingo across New Zealand, develop new relationships, strengthen existing partnerships and help ensure our service makes a positive contribution to the communities we operate in.

This role can be based in Wellington or Auckland, with regular travel to other cities across New Zealand.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with councils, councillors, community organisations, local iwi, Māori organisations, charities, universities, schools and other stakeholders
  • Engage and consult with disability organisations, accessibility advocates and other community groups to understand their concerns, minimise nuisance and identify improvements that help our service work for the entire community
  • Build relationships with local businesses, business associations and networking groups to strengthen community and commercial partnerships
  • Liaise with councillors, council officers, regulatory agencies, resident associations and public land stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships
  • Plan, coordinate and attend community events, rider education sessions and promotional activities
  • Confidently engage with members of the public, answer questions, educate riders and promote responsible scooter use
  • Identify opportunities for new partnerships, community initiatives and events
  • Coordinate in-app deals, corporate partnerships and other community collaborations
  • Gather feedback from stakeholders and communities to help improve our service and address local concerns
  • Capture photos, testimonials and other content for use in social media and tender applications
  • Conduct research, prepare reports and assist with council tenders and stakeholder communications
  • Work closely with our operations and customer support teams to address community feedback and stakeholder requests
  • Provide customer support when required, including responding to rider enquiries, resolving complaints and using our in-house systems
  • Review rider parking photos to ensure compliance with parking standards and contact customers to educate them on safe parking and riding practices
  • Attend meetings, conferences and industry events across New Zealand
  • Comply with and contribute strongly to our company culture of safety

You must:

  • Be confident, friendly and outgoing, with a genuine enjoyment of meeting and talking to new people
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport quickly and engage comfortably with people from all walks of life
  • Be a great listener who can read the room, adapt your communication style to different audiences and respond thoughtfully to questions and feedback
  • Be professional, approachable and comfortable representing Flamingo in meetings with councils, businesses and community organisations
  • Be proactive, organised and capable of managing multiple relationships, events and priorities
  • Have strong written communication skills and a high degree of computer literacy
  • Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Be motivated, enthusiastic and willing to learn
  • Be available to travel regularly between cities across New Zealand

Experience in customer service, client relationship management, community engagement or a similar people-focused role would be an advantage, but personality, attitude and communication skills are what matter most to us. We're happy to provide additional training and support for the right person.

Hours and flexibility

Between 20 and 40 hours per week are available, with some flexibility to work around other commitments. The role will typically be Monday to Friday, although occasional evening and weekend availability will be required for community events and other activities. Regular travel between cities across New Zealand will also be required. Exact days and hours can be discussed.

Why Flamingo?

As a purpose-driven company, we attract people who want to help us have a positive impact on the future of urban mobility in New Zealand.

You'll have the opportunity to work with a passionate and innovative team, meet people from all walks of life, travel around the country and play a meaningful role in how Flamingo connects with local communities.

If this sounds like you, please apply with your CV and a cover letter telling us about yourself and what you'd bring to the Flamingo team.

If it sounds almost like you, get in touch anyway. We're open to additional support and training for the right candidate.
