What they need
Functional Support Specialist
Full-Time | Hourly | Community-Based
About the Organization
Our client is a nonprofit behavioral health and developmental services agency serving individuals and families across New Hampshire's Seacoast region. They offer comprehensive mental health care, family support, and community-based services, and they are known for a supportive culture and real room to grow.
About the Role
As a Functional Support Specialist, you will work one-on-one with adults living with serious and persistent mental illness, helping them build the skills and connections they need to live more independently. This role focuses on mental health support, separate from the agency's developmental services programs.
Most of your time will be spent in the community. You might meet a client at their home, at the library, or anywhere else that works for them. You will have a good amount of control over your own schedule, built around your clients' needs and a weekly billable hours expectation.
You won't be working alone. Each person you support typically has a therapist who sets the treatment plan, a case manager, and you as their FSS. The three of you work closely together. You will report to a Team Lead from the behavioral health group, all of whom are licensed therapists (LCSW). There are three Team Leads: one in Somersworth and two in Rochester.
What You'll Do
- Meet with adult clients in their homes and community settings to build daily living, coping, and social skills
- Help clients reach goals set in their treatment plans
- Connect clients with community resources and support their independence
- Coordinate with each client's therapist and case manager
- Document visits and progress using the agency's technology and systems
- Manage your own schedule to meet a weekly billable hours target
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services preferred; related fields such as Social Work or Psychology are also welcome
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfort using technology to document and manage your work
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record, reliable transportation, and proof of vehicle insurance
- Comfort driving in New England weather and working in clients' homes and in public settings
Why This Role
This is one of the best entry points into the organization, with clear paths to grow into other roles and departments over time. If you are planning to pursue a Master's degree, the agency will help you get there with up to $4,000 per year in tuition assistance, support finding an internship, and schedule flexibility while you are in school.
Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay
- Paid time off and holidays
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- FSA accounts
- Tuition reimbursement
- Life and long-term disability insurance
- 403(b) retirement plan
